It's time to build a new desktop PC! Step Two: Components Purchased!

dividerHive2.png

After more than 12 years I decided to send my Desktop Pc on vacation to build a new Pc.
Although very old, my (dinosaur) Desktop Pc stood up very well until a few years ago thanks to the addition of an SSD and RAM expansion.

My current "dinosaur" Desktop PC has this configuration:

  • CPU: Intel i3-530
  • RAM: 6 GB DDR3
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB
  • SSD: 250 GB
  • 3 HDDs: 4 Terabytes in total

Starting two-three years ago, I began to have the need to buy a new desktop pc with higher speed and more quietness.

Six days ago I chose the components to buy and shared my choices in the post you can read at this link: It's time to assemble my new Desktop PC! Step one: Choosing components to purchase (ENG/ITA)

Today I continue to share my process of creating my new pc, which has reached step 2: purchasing components.

After choosing the components of my new desktop pc, I immediately went from theory to practice: purchasing the components

With a budget of 1300 euro, I tried to balance my new configuration.

As CPU I chose Intel i5 14500.
At the time of choosing I had found a price on Amazon of 260 euros but then the moment I decided to buy this CPU the price on https://www.amazon.it/ went up to 290 euros and I preferred to look for a better price on other online stores.

I did not choose the store for the lowest price but I chose the lowest price among the stores that had many positive reviews and my choice went to the store: https://www.bpm-power.com/

Intel i5 14500 was my first purchase from this store and I spent: 246.84 + 6.25 = 253.09 euros

image.png

I placed the order on April 16, 2024 and the CPU was shipped but I haven't received it yet and considering that today is Sunday it will most likely arrive at my house on Monday.

All other components I purchased from https://www.amazon.it/

As Motherboard I purchased ASUS Prime B760-PLUS: Intel LGA 1700 ATX motherboard, DDR5 PCIe 5.0, 3 M.2 slots, ...
Cost: €149.49

image.png

The motherboard has already arrived at my house and I am waiting for the CPU to arrive to open it.

IMG20240420180157.jpg

I somewhat regretted this purchase because there were other motherboards that I liked better but with my budget I had to compromise.
Still, I think I bought a motherboard with very good quality/price ratio.

As a power supply (PSU) I chose be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W, ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 compatible, 80 PLUS Gold, modular power supply, 12VHPWR cable included, be quiet! 120 mm fan, BN344

image.png

The power supply is often an item that people make the mistake of saving money on, and I made that mistake with my old pc and changed at least 5 power supplies in about 13 years.

This time I chose a modular, quiet, quality power supply with 80 Plus Gold certification that should last many years.

I spent 138.33 euros and the power supply is already at my house.

IMG20240420180312.jpg

As for the storage element I bought a 2 TB 4th generation Internal M.2SSD with a read speed of up to 7000 MB/s: Lexar NQ790 2 TB

I spent 154.99 euros

image.png

RAM RAM RAM and RAM! It is never enough
In my old pc I increased the RAM 3 times starting from 2 GB to 6 GB.
This time I chose to have a good amount of fast RAM from the start.

I bought 2 16 GB DDR5 modules: Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz C30.
I spent 144.39 euros.

image.png

The RAM and SSD also arrived at my house.

IMG20240420180234.jpg

The video card I purchased is the ASUS DUAL NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 OC 8 GB GDDR6
I bought this video card because it has so many positive reviews and also has a very good price/quality ratio in my opinion.

image.png

I spent 318.99 euros and also the video card was shipped and arrived at my home.

IMG20240420180116.jpg

The case I purchased is the be quiet! Pure Base 500 FX Black Midi Tower**.

I spent 135.70 euros on this case.

image.png

I chose this case because of the positive reviews I've read and also because it has preinstalled four quiet, excellent quality fans that if purchased separately cost more than 70 euros.

The case also arrived at my house and you can see it in the next photo.

IMG20240421004753.jpg

For my new desktop pc I spent 1294.98 euros but I will overrun even if slightly my initial budget with the purchase of Windows 11 Pro which should cost me about 50 euros.

With my new desktop pc I will take a big step forward in terms of speed and performance compared to my old computer:
CPU: Intel i3-530 -> Intel i5-14500
RAM: 6 GB DDR3 -> 32 GB DDR5
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB -> NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 OC 8 GB
SSD: 250 GB -> 2TB M.2 SSD

Now I just have to wait for the CPU to arrive to begin assembly and I will share the next steps in creating my new Desktop PC here on Hive.

I hope you liked my post and thank you for taking your time to read it!

  • CPU: Intel i3-530
  • RAM: 6 GB DDR3
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB
  • SSD: 250 GB
  • 3 HDD: 4 Terabyte in totale

It's time to assemble my new Desktop PC! Step one: Choosing components to purchase (ENG/ITA)

Come CPU ho scelto Intel i5 14500

Come Motherboard ho acquistato ASUS Prime B760-PLUS: Scheda madre Intel LGA 1700 ATX, DDR5 PCIe 5.0, 3 slot M.2, ...
Costo: 149.49 euro

image.png

Come alimentatore (PSU) ho scelto be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W, compatibile ATX 3.0 e PCIe 5.0, 80 PLUS Gold, alimentatore modulare, cavo 12VHPWR incluso, ventola be quiet! da 120 mm, BN344

image.png

Ho speso 138.33 euro e l'alimentatore è già a casa mia.

IMG20240420180312.jpg

CPU: Intel i3-530 -> Intel i5-14500
RAM: 6 GB DDR3 -> 32 GB DDR5
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB -> NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 OC 8 GB
SSD: 250 GB -> 2TB M.2 SSD

I did upgrade my PC in 2022 and chosen tongo with i7 9th Gen along with 32 GB ram. The performance has been amazing since then and I never had issues with speed. I am sure you are going to enjoy the speed of your new PC as 32gb Ram is too much. Congratulations bro

Hello my friend and thank you for sharing your experience with your i7 and 32 GB ram. I can't wait to assemble my new pc and try it but I am still waiting for the delivery of the cpu which I hope will arrive soon :)

!HIQVOTE !PGM !LOL !PIZZA

Sorry I missed the previous post, I'll check that in a bit, but the new pieces are killer man! All the pieces look like they will take you for the next 10 years or so. Did you spend too much? Maybe, but it looks like it was worth it. I wish you to use them on good days.

Thanks my friend, yes I hope this pc will also last me at least 10 years ;)

Price is something that you'll always compromise on especially when your budget is limited. 1300€ is still quite a lot of money. But I'm sure the motherboard you went for is decent enough to give due quality.
Hopefully you get to finish this nicely.

You're welcome

It sounds like a nice PC. I agree with the power supply being better. If you start swapping in parts and you need more power, you don't want to have to buy a new one.
