The Amakpa Multipurpose Hall was filled with men and women from the neighboring community, especially the residents of Amakpa Community. It was the third day of the International Climate Change Conference. The conference had been on since Monday and was about being rounded up that Wednesday. Beribe and his friend, Azuka had been in attendance since the first day. Beribe, who heard about the conference, informed Azuka and they went there simply to feast on the bountiful supply of food which is supposed to be available at such events. The people of Amakpa had known Beribe and Azuka for hunting for food at ceremonies.
“Azuka, these people are talking about something very important. I thank God that I was able to attend”, said Beribe.
“Hahahaha! So, you have found gold from your clay soil! I thought you came here for food?”, answered Azuka as he made mockery of Beribe.
“My friend, be serious for once! Can't you hear what they are talking about? Is it not something a reasonable person should take to heart? I am considering planting trees around our compound.” replied Beribe.
“Really, it's important. Minus joke, I will get some pine trees to plant around our own house too”, Azuka added.
At about 3pm some Hilux trucks came in with some loads. That was almost the closing time. The audience, which was made up of mostly people from Amakpa, became rowdy as they sensed that that could the trucks bringing in food for the guests.
“Beribe, they have brought food”, exclaimed Azuka.
“Your mind is only on food! Food basket! What they are saying, you don't hear that one. My friend, go and plant a tree.”, Beribe answered.
