This is my post for #freewriters 2555 prompt prize idiot hosted by @mariannewest

As we were going to the cheap store today I was looking at the old fruit packing houses as we drove by them, I did not think to take pictures of them. Most stand empty just like the fish houses, they are a thing of the past.

The cheap store is part of an old packing house in Vero, I think it was Graves Brothers. The picture is of the back side of one of the buildings that is left. The front part of the building looks like they are remodeling it to be either offices or apartments.

While we were standing in line to check out, this baby rat came around a display and up to my husband, he looked at me and said "what am I going to do with him?" He picks it up and shows the prize idiot to the cashier. She looks at it and says how cute, is it a lizard? My husband says "No, it's a rat". I thought now my husband was the prize idiot because he scared that poor lady. Her hands went up as she jumped back and let out a big OH NO while shaking her head. I think she needs glasses to think it was a cute lizard, but I understand how that can happen.

My husband said he would take it outside and let it go, the lady could not get "please do" from her lips fast enough.

You have to watch what you buy in this store, some of the boxes or packages have holes chewed in them and I have seen rats run from aisle to aisle.

Rats in the store! Oh no!

He caught the rate easily!!! With bare hand!! I wouldn't do that! The feeling of holding a rat is not pleasant to me. I catches large rats a few occasional I guess, long ago, just to kill them!

I wasn't familiar with the phrase, "Prize idiot". Now I know. Thanks.

Yes, he caught it with bare hands but washed them after letting it go outside. It was a baby and it was scared, it went right to him. He told me last night he should have brought it home because he was worried it might not find water where he let it go.

He will set traps to kill rats, that is different from this, they die fast, it is not like letting something die a slow death.

I have never heard "prize idiot" either. I do not think I used it right. I think it would mean someone like a goof-ball.

I would never go back there, at least not to buy food.

We save a lot of money by shopping there, so rats or not, it is worth it. We watch what we buy, nothing like flour where I have the thought of a rat peeing on the package and it drying and how much went on the flour. Things like that, "NO Mame", I am not buying it there.

It is a store where the big stores donate expired foods or about to expire. They charge us what they call a handling fee, which on some items is the same price as the big stores that gave it to them. But fresh veggies are cheap you just have to pick through the bad ones.

Yesterday we got 4 heads of lettuce for .59 cents and a case of baby spinach for .99 cents, the case had 8 big packages in it. None of it had any rotten spots which is rare.
