This is my post for #freewriters 2627 prompt unpleasant lump hosted by @mariannewest
I do not agree with buying a dog from a breeder because there are so many dogs waiting to be adopted or they will be killed by an organization with humane in its name, there is nothing humane about killing a healthy dog. Also, you never know how much inbreeding has occurred from breeders.
(Now that I got that out of me), I will talk about this dog. My daughter bought her from a breeder, she got lucky and got a good dog. She paid either 400 or 800 dollars for her, but I am not sure which it was, it was a lot of money.
She got her as soon as it was time for her to be weaned from her mother. She looked too small to me, but that is what I was told.
My daughter called her, her Pretty Pretty Princess, but her name was Emma.
Whenever I took the grandkids camping, Emma went with us. My daughter never liked camping and did not like her Pretty Pretty Princess going, but her kids won, and we always took Emma with us. You see the Pretty Pretty Princess had to have her bed off the ground, she had two chairs, one for whatever direction she wanted to lay.
Back then you could let your dogs run free on the islands and when they first jumped onto dry land you could see the excitement in their run as they covered the entire island only stopping to mark their territory. I will not camp without at least one dog, the islands are full of huge rats and if you do not have a dog to keep them away at night they will eat through your tent. Emma was a great protector, we never had a rat problem.
For the last year Emma was having trouble standing and walking. For the last few months she was not eating like she should, she was having accidents in the house and was losing a lot of weight. My daughter spent thousands of dollars trying to find out what was wrong with her, the Vet said there were signs of cushing's disease and was being treated for it.
One day my daughter noticed an unpleasant lump on her back leg, to feel it, it was a hard lump. I told my daughter I was afraid it might be some kind of cancer.
She took her to the vet. He said he could run some expensive tests on her but he was sure it was bone cancer. With a heavy heart, he gave her pain meds and told my daughter that when she was ready or if Emma was showing signs of pain and the meds not working to bring her back to him. Emma was a trooper, she never complained but had a look in her eyes that did not sit right with any of us, we all knew what it was.
My daughter wanted to wait until the holidays were over and for her youngest to be able to get here. That day came and they took her to the Vet. Her Vet had cared for Emma for the last 14 years. When he gave her the shot, not only did my daughter and granddaughter cry, but he cried and his staff was crying.
Emma was at peace.
She was loved by all.
These last two pics are the last ones I took of her.
RIP Pretty Pretty Princess.
