This is my post for #freewriters 2580 prompt don’t allow this hosted by @mariannewest
I wanted to write about something that is dear to my heart, my mother, I did not want to write a post about someone telling me they *don't allow this", but the prompt is what it is.
So here goes the prompt. We had always camped on one of the islands on the river. We took the kids for 2 weeks every year when school got out. My sister, her husband and kids, my husband's sister her husband and kids, and my husband's brother plus whoever else wanted to come, there were always extra kids, all camped for 2 weeks.
The last time we camped on the Middle East Bank, we were anchored on the edge of the channel grouper fishing and a Sherriff boat pulled up to us. He asked if we were camping on the island and told us they don’t allow this anymore. He said all of the islands on the east side of the channel can only be camped on for 3 days, that is two nights. I was upset because it was an island in front of the boat ramp, which made running people back and forth easy.
We had many words with the Sheriff and as he pulled away he says, "That's progress" and I replied, "Progress sucks".
We were leaving the next day so we were lucky that we had not been there 4 days and him making us move, I think if we had to pack it all up after 4 days, we would have gone home instead of another island. It takes a lot of work and stuff for that many people to primitive camp....
Now about my Mom and the Christmas tree. Mom used to be a florist and she made me this reef, I never hang it because I do not want it outside. This year I decided to put it on my tree.
my first ornament
Since the 1980s my mom has bought a Christmas ornament for me, she also buys one for each sister. For many years I took them out of the package and now do not remember the years. So back in 2011, I started keeping them in the package and writing the year on it or the boxes they came in. She even gave me the tree skirt back in the 80s.
The only things on my tree are the years of ornaments Mom gave me or something she made and gave me. The items hanging she gave me and the Santa in the window, as for the pink cardboard taped to the window, that is my husband's idea on how to keep the dog from barking every time she sees something in the yard. It is unsightly but it works.
A Christmas tree does not have to look like it came from a magazine but should come from the heart, this one does that.
