After living in Florida for the first 15 years it was a shock when my Dad moved us to Missouri. Florida is all flatland and most roads are straight. I had never seen hills much less, mountains, and the roads with so many twists and turns that had no guardrails and one side had a drop off down the side of a mountain and the other side was a wall of the side of the mountain. It was scary being the driver or passenger in the winter. Winter was another shock for me, I had never seen snow nor had I ever been that cold.

The closest town was called Ava and to get there you had to drive through the water going across creeks, I guess they did not know what a bridge was for, they laid cement at the bottom of the creek, I am not sure how they did that but it was there. When they had a lot of rain the creek would rise and water would come in your car door, it also got hard to know where the concrete dropped off.

Where I was from the main hub of town was on one street (a straight street). The town centre in Ava or town center as I would call it, was called the town square, it is my opinion they called it this because you had to go in a square to get anywhere, it was all one way, you came to the square and if the store you wanted to park at was behind where you entered, you have to go all the way around the square to get to the store you wanted. This was in the 1970s and they still have it this way.

It took me 7 years to get back home where you could drive straight to the store you wanted, there are no mountains to fall off of and the winters are tolerable....

Many years ago my Mother gave me two lots in north Florida but we never had them put in my name. By Florida law when someone passes without a will, all the property is divided between their children or spouse, After Mom passed one sister thought she would inherit one third of the lots. Everyone in the family knew that I had been paying the taxes on them for the last 25 years. After many arguments, she finally agreed to sign them over to me.

Today I got all of the paperwork signed by both sisters and notarized, all I need to do now is put the papers in the mail to the attorney and he will file it in the court and they will be mine. Several months ago I went there and saw the lots, they are in the middle of nowhere and I have no desire to move there, plus it will be colder that far north. My husband thinks he would like to live there but he has never seen them. Maybe one day he will see them and how far they are from everything and change his mind.
