This is my post for #freewriters 2527 prompt lack of expertise hosted by @mariannewest

Around the first week of September, I found what we thought were snake eggs. My husband put them in a jar and set them on his desk. Last night he said one looked like it had a small slit in it and this morning we are the parents to two baby snakes, he thinks they are red rat snakes.

There are 4 eggs, but one did not look like it was any good but we put it in the jar just in case it was ok. We will see if the other one hatches in the next few days. The one with his head up was a mean one, it kept trying to strike at us through the jar. The other one only laid there looking at us like to say, Mom, Dad, why do you look like that? We took these two outside and released them.

I have been trying to find a better spot for my composting pots, this is where they have been for a few years but I have not been happy with them being here so before the storm I moved them. I have to admit that I do have a lack of expertise when it comes to composting but we are out of soil and do not think we will be getting any more. We bought a dump truckload a few years ago, that is the only way they would deliver it. It cost over 1500.00 for it but I can imagine the price has gone up by now.

The place I moved them to gets flooded when we get a lot of rain. So I searched for another spot to put them. Each time I move them I have to shovel all the contents into smaller pots and then dump them back into the composting pots.

My best place was next to our sheds, but there were a lot of weeds and grass so I could not place them on the ground, I put plastic down so the weeds would not find their way into my pots.

I got two of the composting pots filled when I had the realization that I would not care for it way over here. I am not running the hose across the yard every time I think it is too dry. So what did I do?

I had to empty them, once again and I put them back where they were at to begin with. Moving compost pots, I do not have a lack of expertise.

You helped hatching the baby snakes 🐍? Who would do that knowingly??

Thanks for sharing your composting adventure!

Yes we did, they are good snakes, they eat rats. The bad snakes around us have live births, no eggs.
