This is my post for #freewriters 2470 prompt one last bullet hosted by @mariannewest
My husband fished yesterday and today and has started catching trout. Yesterday he said he stayed mad. He said he wanted to fish the southwest corner of Grant Farm Island but before he could get pulled into where he wanted to fish a pontoon boat ran unto the sandbar near where he wanted to fish and after several tries, they got off the bar just to run aground on it again. He let that area settle down and fished near there. when he thought things were settled he headed there again, he got anchored and pitched a bait toward the shoreline near the trees, he caught a trout and heard a boat coming. It was another pontoon boat and they wanted to go between him and the shore, he stood up in his boat and yelled at them to go around his bow. They yelled back that it was too shallow to go there, he yelled back that it was not, and they went around his bow. He said there were only 5 trucks with trailers at the ramp and two boats messed him up.
I had told him in the past that I wanted to carry a gun with me because sometimes I get back to the boat ramp and I am the only one there, some ramps are secluded and I get a weird feeling like I am being watched. He told me that with the way people are on the river, it was not a good idea for me to have a gun on the boat because face it people are idiots when it comes to respect for commercial fishermen trying to make a living and if I am pulling fish and you mess my bite up, I might fill your boat with all but my one last bullet, I might need it at the ramp.
After he left Grant Farm Island he even got madder, he missed or lost on the way to the boat 8 nice trout, he said he changed hooks and still lost them, but after 11am he said he never missed or lost one, maybe they were not biting good in the morning. He ended up catching 40 pounds.
Today he fished the islands out from Pam's Cove and to the north, he fished Bird Shit Island last week and caught 3 on it, today he caught 10 on it. He said they are small fish, between 15 to 16 inches, the size limit is 15. He said the bait is getting almost too big for this size trout, they will run with it and if you came back on them too soon, you missed them, if you let them run until they stopped he thinks they swallow the pigfish but it is so big that they do not get the hook in their mouth, so when you come back on it, it rips the hook out of the pigfish.
He fished the other islands and caught 15 more trout but a thunderstorm was developing so he had to come in, he caught 45 pounds. At the fishhouse he picked up last weeks check, he did not have many fish on it because he quit when the price dropped, he was surprised to see the price came back up to 4 dollars, not the 4.50 like it was but it is better than 3.50. The owner has done this before, if you don't have many fish in, he pays good, if he thinks you are going to catch good, he drops the price, even though he sells them all through his retail market. I will be surprised if he gets 4 dollars a pound for this weeks fish. He was home at 2:30 and the thunderstorm went away.
*photo is mine, not his fish either, some I caught a couple years
