This is my post for #freewriters 2257 prompt *magic fireplace hosted by @mariannewest.
Each time you lose a pet you tell yourself that that is the last one, you are not getting any more pets and at the time you mean this.
KrazyKat was not a cat to take no for an answer when it came to moving in with us. She showed up at our house when we lived in VLE. We had other cats and did not want another one, plus there was a feral cat we named Big Head that we fed and looked after.
I named her KrazyKat because, from the day she arrived, the other cats would beat her up, she would roll to her back, feet in the air, and pee all over herself while screaming. I could not bear to see her do this to herself and took her into the house. She did not go back outside, she stayed a housecat and once inside the others left her alone. She loved a sunspot or to lay in front of the heater with her best buddy Dobbie. We had ten years.
Littleone was another one of our cats she lived for 21 years. Her best buddy was a chicken named Beedy Eyed Bitch, Beedy would come to the door and want in the house, and I would never let her come in.
In the afternoon my husband would sit outside with Beedy on one knee and Littleone on the other, a rottweiler on one side, and a dachshund on the other while he drank his beer.
Even though he did this every day.....I could not get a picture of it,
He said after I walked away, they sat there like they always do.
It was going to be below freezing so my husband brought Beedy inside. We had Beedy for 7 years, the Rotweiller we had for 12.
Littleone liked to sit in a box beside my husband's chair so of course when he brought Beedy inside she had to have her box next to him, too. It must have been very cold, my husband has socks on, he always goes barefoot.
One year my husband bought me this heater for Christmas, Dobbie thought it was "his" magic fireplace, I let him think this.
Sadly all of those pets have passed on, and the pets that we were never going to have again are 2 dogs, 5 quail, and now a rabbit has joined the family. If it gets cold enough, I still have the magic fireplace and I am sure there is enough room around it for all of us.
I have been cutting Rudy's milk with water, he now gets 75% water. I told my husband Rudy is like a 5 year old child still sucking on a bottle, he needs to be weaned from it, but honestly, I like our bonding time when I feed him. Once I tried giving him only water in his bottle, and he got mad at me.
This dog we have had for a year but she does not belong to us. She is a smart dog and we do not mind caring for her.
This one we have had 2 or 3 years, she does not belong to us either. She loves a mud puddle, even this morning, the temperature was in the low 50s and I had to tell her to get out of the mud puddle. Other than puddles she is not any trouble to care for but she is not as smart as the other dog. They are both very loving and good when people come over not to jump on them.
