I did not get the wrong diagram but I did read it wrong. Two years ago we were putting a new throttle cable on my motor, this diagram does not show all the turns you have to go through to install a new cable. To make it worse, the forward cable and reverse cable go in opposite directions, and they were very hard to get wrapped around where they needed to be.
The next morning I put my boat in the water and tied it to the dock while I parked the truck. I started the motor and untied the boat, when I put the boat in reverse, it went forward and I almost ran it up the ramp but I thought fast enough and put the motor in forward and it backed up.
I told my husband what happened and he said I would get used to it, which I have but I get a laugh every time we get to the ramp at the same time and he tells me to get my truck and he will put my boat on the trailer. I watch him go forward when he needs to go in reverse. I laugh to myself, he will get used to it.
