Not often in the current environment do we find young adults who take the time to help their elders. They are too busy, or just don't want to get involved. The young man in your story already was instilled with virtues that immediately rose to the top when he encountered the couple. The fact that the young man was in desperate need and someone came along at the right moment and helped him probably brought forth empathy for their urgent situation. How noble of him to attend to the wife while the husband was away.
