Ban Social Media. Yay or Nay?

in Freewriters6 months ago

I sat with my friends this afternoon talking about something which I’m gonna talk about in this post. One of us suggested that social networks should be canceled. She said she believes that the cancellation of social networks will reduce the way we see so many negative things online and we won’t be influenced by what we see. Does that make sense to you?
It makes no sense to me though because there are so many things that we see on social media and it is usually highly beneficial to us.

What led us to that conversation?

I was checking some WhatsApp statuses yesterday and one of my friends lost a very old man but I’m not sure that’s his grandfather. It’s normal to post about the loss and how pained you are, right? But the annoying part of this is that he posted a picture of the dead body in the casket. I don’t know how you see this but it really got me annoyed.

I know everyone can post what they wish to post but there are just so many things that are uncalled for. Why post up a dead body for us to see? I even feel a dead body shouldn’t be posted because we have to respect their privacy even though they may be dead.
Sometime in 2022, I lost a friend and one of my friends posted his dead body on his WhatsApp status. I got angry but didn’t challenge him because of people are to judge, everyone will say that he has the right to post whatever he wants to post which is true.

What do we do with our social networks?

Honestly, a lot of people do shitty things. I use social networks too but there is one thing that says, “what you subscribe to makes you”. I check things I can benefit from instead of promoting hate speech online. I check new things about crypto instead of posting random asses online which is not going to add to people’s life in anyway.

I’ve seen a lot of young girls post their asses online and begin to shake the butts. If you make findings, you’d get to know that they were not like that before but the things they watch online was able to influence them and maybe they also want to chase clout or feel among so they decided to give it a try.

Do people really get influenced?

I was part of those who believed that people don’t ever get influenced but they do those things because it has been in them but now, I changed my mind. People really get influenced. That’s why kids tend to perfect whatever behavior we teach them.

Should social networks be banned?

If social networks become banned, what happens to those who sell things online? What happens to those who make their money on social media. What happens to those who learn about crypto and all online.

What’s the solution to this?

Train your kids well. No matter how much rubbish I see online, there are many things I see but can’t be forced to do because I’m not like that. I’m well trained and cultured.

I’m not the best but let’s teach our kids the good ways of life and morals. It goes a long way.

How do you feel about this and do you have any contribution?
