!!! WARNING SPOILERS FOR PREVIOUS SEASONS !!!
Last Season Synopsis:
Thinking about last season of Overlord, a lot of people were mad. Because there wasn't much of Ainz being Ainz with his OP boney butt. It was heavily focused on Carne Village. Through the season there were some mini-arcs which encompassed the full season, The first was the new goblins and ogres, then it was the invasion of Nazarick (my personal favorite), then we were back to Carne Village, and finally it was Ainz being his OP self dominating on the battlefield. Good stuff. But as you can see, assuming I recall correctly, Carne Village was focused on more heavily than any of the other arcs.
Thoughts:
Unlike many other connoisseurs, I wasn't annoyed by the focus on Carne Village but that's how it played out in the LN. It focused heavily on the village in the LN which I think, and don't quote me on this one, was book 4 or 5 maybe? I'm probably wrong on that. But in the book, it focused mostly on Carne Village, which was a pain to read 'cause I wanted to get to Ainz but afterwards I appreciated that fleshing out and character development. However... However however, I was so pissed about the half assed CGI which was present throughout the season.
Nitpicking:
In the first or second episode I believe, Ainz was telling the Maid, and Mare, and Albedo how he loves all the NPCs of Nazarick. The Invisible Assassins acting as his bodyguards didn't fall under this category in the LN. They were purchased through the game system and were easily replaceable except for being expensive. So Ainz doesn't care about them actually. It annoyed me that they acknowledged this statement in the Anime because he wasn't addressing them.
The freaking CGI from the assassins to the goblins, to the trolls, to the goats, the CGI is so basic and lame. Honestly would rather they pick other ways to animate the larger armies etc than really bad CGI. Honestly they really condensed these Arcs in the 12 episode season. It should have been double that which would have, hopefully, kept them from having to use that crappy CGI since they would have had more time to draw everything out. Is that how it works? I dunno. But the CGI sucked. And the stories were rushed. There's a lot of detail we didn't get to see.
Next Season:
In spite of everything, I'm very excited for Overlord Season 4. Not sure what's happening with the movie, but if it's a recap then boooooo lame! To be honest, it probably is just a recap so I'm not even thinking about it. Next season I believe will be... oh I won't spoil it, but if it is, then some more hilarity will be coming. Also we'll get to see... Oh and I can't forget that thing about Ainz. Sigh I hope it's a longer season so they can properly flesh out this season unlike last season.
