Hi all 👋🏻
Today I want to share some of my RECENT #adventures during our road trip in #scotland with you in the form of a walk to see the ”DRUM CASTLE” ~ in DRUMOAK, SCOTLAND 🏴
I haven’t been able to be much on-line as most of you must have noticed 😇 if you don’t know, it was due to not having internet in our new rental, (YES WE ARRIVED!) no mobile signal or wifi in our last 2 holiday accommodations during the road trip. We went truly remote 😎😉
So…. After some researching for a solution… 🤓 “Starlink” 📡 arrived yesterday 🎉🎉 and I am on-line again, so I can update you on our journey and what country we moved to. I will also post Friday the set up of #starlink and how my experience is until then. 🤓
While most of the time I was on the road traveling for over 1 month… Along the way, we did visit some amazing places. Today I want to share this walk with you when we stayed in DRUMOAK for 3 nights, so I had some time to explore many places around there.
#aberdeenshire to be precise.
Updates (part 5 and 6 of our journey) will follow in the next days up to a week 😉😎 as I am also still busy doing paperwork, organising, getting utilities sorted out and unpacking many many boxes 📦 📦 📦 hahaha 🤣 I’m half way now I think.
It’s almost like opening Christmas pressies… as some of the boxes had not been opened for over 1 year. This because of us moving around a lot in Spain 🇪🇸 🎁🎁🎁 so it’s sometimes… “did I still have this?” and “oh didn’t remember even having this” Kind of a reactions finding something.
Further… I can start transferring my camera photos 📸 to my laptop 💻 as this will go much faster now (having internet) and I can edit them in the next days to share in my upcoming posts. Somehow my laptop doesn’t let me transfer them through a direct cable at the moment… will have to find a solution for that soon.
But let’s not divert too far… and let’s get back to our WednesdayWalk;
With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in! if you want to join… the community is run by @tattoodjay.
Look at his last post : “Wednesday Walk an evening walk in Fort Phoenix“
It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁
Today’s selection will be of 18 photographs, where I take you along on a visit to see the castle from the outside and some of its surroundings 🏰 including the animals I saw.
It was a beautiful day 😊 even though rainy 🌧️ and cloudy ☁️ I loved it.
I visited this castle on Tuesday 10 January 2023.
The Photographs in this post are all taken with my iPhone 📱🤓
I will follow the time stamps on my photographs. So it looks like you are walking along with me on this #walk around the #castle, to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything, like the little #details seen through my eyes. 😊
Let me show you first its location on Google maps, see the yellow star ⭐️ :
Zooming out, you see it is left from Aberdeen, see the yellow arrow.
The National Trust of Scotland has information on their website about this castle, you find it In this website / page.
Let’s start our WALK now:
Are you coming along? 😉😊
After parking the car on the parking lot a little bit further than the castle, we get out… wrap ourselves up with scarves, hats and gloves to keep warm 😉 and start walking.
We see:
The side of DRUM CASTLE.
More information about this castle you find In this Wikipedia page! About it.
The above website states:
”Drum Castle is a castle near Drumoak in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. For centuries it was the seat of the chief of Clan Irvine. The place-name Drum is derived from Gaelic druim, 'ridge'.”
A little bit of the history:
”The original 13th-century tower of Drum Castle has been suggested as the work of medieval architect Richard Cementarius, who built the Brig o' Balgownie, the first Bridge of Don, in Old Aberdeen. It is believed to be one of the three oldest tower houses in Scotland (and notably unaltered). A large wing was added in 1619 by the 9th laird, and further alterations were made during the Victorian era.”
For more info… do go to the Wikipedia website and have a read 🤓
As we walk further to see this beautiful castle, along the back side we see this facade.
Stepping back a bit more to give you a wider overview of the right part.
Further back we see the left side too. As you can see it is raining a lot on this day 🌧️
Turning around we see part of the garden and walk up some steps and follow the path until we see this small chapel. What has been built in the 1500s. Source
Following a path we go back towards the side we came from as the other side is grass land and goes rather steep down 😎 let’s just follow the path today and don’t get wet in the grass 🤓
Looking at the side entrance. See the details above the arch 🤓 they are beautiful.
Walking further around we see some Christmas lights under the main entrance. As the castle is closed today, we don’t go further in.
Walking opposite the road we have a better view of the castle 🏰
We see the (mentioned before) tower on the left. Imagine how old it is and we can walk around it today and see 😊
While we are opposite of the castle I notice the field behind us and walk up the steep edge towards the fence. In the distance we see these cute sheep 🐑
Closer look… I zoom in as much as I can with my phones camera so it remains still clear.
Aren’t they cute.🐑🐑🐑🐑 I do think that tree is majestic too 😎
On the left we see that they just have got some food and are gathered around it. They didn’t come down even though I saw some curious heads going up and looking at me 😎 hahaha 🤣
I capture 2 more photos… of the sheep 🐑
And as we walk back down, we look one more time towards the castle. There is a large forest next to it but as the days are short in Scotland… I mean daylight here… we won’t go into the forest this late. Maybe another time when I will visit Aberdeenshire one day 🤓
And here I say “that’s all for today’s post my friends, join me next time for more #adventures, #stories and #photographs 😎👋🏻 Even some #artworks once in a while will come by” 🎨
Thank you so much for looking, and reading. And if you liked my post, an upvote or re-blog is always welcome.
