Hello friends and Hivians. I hope everyone is doing well. So today I'm joining the #WednesdayWalk community, an initiative of @tattoodjay and I will share my time at a work function I attended yesterday.
The function was set up as a time for everyone to get together to unwind. I work on a military base and the particular unit I work in set up this event some time ago. The name of the event is Summer Bash and the unit rented out an area at the Bellevue Berry Farm. I went to this venue back in June when the entire base had an event there. A different feeling this time as it wasn't flooded with 5000 people just a hundred or so this time.
The event ran from 12:00 to 4:30. We had the choice to stay at work or attend the event. I decided to make an appearance at around 12:30. Free food and a time to relax, why stay at work? I'll have to say my timing was good because they just started to serve the food. A basic grill and eat outings. There were hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, potato salad, macaroni salad, fruits, chips and drinks.
After everyone finished feeding themselves they started with some activities. One of the activities was a dunk tank. A few individuals were chosen based off of votes. A fundraiser was set up for this by paying for the votes. It's a fun activity that makes a little cash for the unit so they can do events like this in the future. Just happy I didn't receive any votes. It pays to keep a low profile 😂
It's a good time to be spectator. First off you get to see someone drop in the tank of cold water (it was filled with quite a bit of ice too 🥶). Secondly you get to see who can throw a softball 🥎 Some have it while some were more than a bit outside with their throws, haha.
They also had a large Connect Four board contest and a cornhole tournament. I didn't participate or stick around to watch. I decided to work off the food I just ate and took a walk around the venue.
There is so much to see here and the 90 minutes or so I spent on this walk I didn't see everything. Being that my unit only purchased a particular area many of the other things at this venue were not open. So I will highlight some of things I enjoyed.
One of the first things I seen on my walk were these three tree house and a pirate ship. When I visited back in June you could see a lot of kids running up the ramps screaming, yelling, laughing using there imagination. Further beyond the tree houses were other buildings which I couldn't visit due to downed trees caused by a recent wind storm.
They have quite the variety of goats here. Goats are super friendly and many of them headed in my direction when I was up against the fence. I did reach out to a few them and gave them a pat on the head. I even felt some of their horns. Goat are just loveable curious animals.
Not just goats but peacocks and chickens as well. I so wanted the peacock to open up and show all of its colorful feathers but that didn't happen. The few peacocks I saw would let you get pretty close to them. The chickens on the other hand weren't so friendly. Maybe they sensed I seen fried chicken in the shape of a leg, breast or wing, haha.
Here we are some rusty gold good ole transportation. I can never be overwhelmed with too much of transportation related items. The covered wagon has seen better days but I just love its patina. Actually I can say that about all these vehicles.
It's cool how they painted the emblem on the stake bed truck showing homage to this place. I really like the old fuel truck and how it still has Shell company written on it. The last picture is of a converted wagon into a grill. Got to respect it when an item is repurposed due to it being no longer useable for its original purpose.
So many buildings at this location and it much feels like an old town setting. Now not all of them are authentic but it does feed your mind in thinking what things would have been like 100 or 150 years ago. Now the barn is real barn but it's been converted to hold indoor activities and contains a gift shop.
Now a lot of the things that go on here were closed because the whole venue wasn't rented. There are about half dozen food stands. I'll admit I was craving some sweets because my unit's event did not have any. Oh well it would have ruined the good of the walk I did right?
It was a beautiful day as it was around 75° F. A cold front pushed through the area the night before as it was close to 100° F the day before. This really made me appreciate and enjoy this walk.
Well that's all I have for you at this time. Thanks for your time and coming this far. Take care, stay safe and enjoy what's left of the week. Until next time!
