Hot Fudge Sundae Day + Día del Sundae de Fudge Caliente [Eng+Spa]

I can assure you that I started writing this Thursday's post earlier, but several things led me to delay the publication. At least, it's still July 25th and I have time to publish.

I've done very few things today, so I have almost nothing to comment on my personal matters. It's the usual, a little work, some housework, and little else. So I prefer to make a brief record today and focus on the Anniversaries of the day. Of all the celebrations that were on the list, I chose one that has to do with #food, which is always a topic that attracts me. It is a party in honor of a type of #IceCream: Today is Hot Fudge Sundae Day.

In these recent days, I have written various times about ice cream celebrations. So I am not going to reiterate the history of this cold and refreshing #dessert. Suffice it to say that, although the creamy ice cream we know today has a long history, the Sundae appeared on the scene at the end of the 19th century.

This ice cream is an American creation, but I am not clear as to its specific origin, as there are several locations that claim to be the birthplace of this dessert, including: Illinois, New York State, New Orleans, Louisiana, Cleveland, Ohio, Los Angeles, and Buffalo.

However, several of the sources I read insistently pointed out that the creation of this type of ice cream was in Ithaca (a location in Tompkins County, New York). There are many versions that the name of this ice cream was due to the fact that it was a request for ice cream made on a Sunday. Another source says that it is due to the fact that, on October 5, 1892, the 'Ithaca Daily Journal' published the first advertisement for ice cream on a Sunday.

However, there is another earlier reference, from 1881, and it says that Mr. George Hallauer asked the pharmacist Edward Berners for an ice cream, and it was a Sunday. Berners was a bit creative in the preparation of the ice cream and gave birth to the Sundae.

Actually, I am not sure which of all these data is the most reliable.

But, considering the ice cream itself, I think I don't care much about those details.

I can't remember when I ate this ice cream for the first time. I guess it was in childhood, when I was walking around the capital with one of my aunts, and we stopped at an ice cream parlor. I like ice cream, and this one in particular was interesting.

The Sudae is, in general, an ice cream covered with a sweet sauce or syrup, decorated with whipped cream and (usually) garnished with chopped fruits (I think the most common are cherries and strawberries). And in the case of today's sundae, it is about the fact that, in the recipe, when serving the #sundae to eat it, a generous amount of hot caramel is sprinkled on it, or it can be hot chocolate syrup. The contrast of the temperature clash makes this preparation fascinating.

Personally, I have become a little nostalgic. Those childhood memories are quite magical. Well, it is time for me to say goodbye, I hope you are well and that we can read each other again another time.

He hecho pocas cosas hoy, así que no tengo casi nada que comentar de mis asuntos personales. Es lo usual, un poco de trabajo, algo de tareas domésticas, y poco más. Así que prefiero hacer hoy un registro breve y enfocarme en la Efemérides del día. De todas las celebraciones que había en el listado, escogí una que tiene que ver con la #comida, que siempre es un tema que me atrae. Se trata de una fiesta en honor a un tipo de #Helado: Hoy es el Día del Sundae de Fudge Caliente.

En todos estos días recientes, he escrito varias veces sobre celebraciones de helados. Así que no voy a reiterar la historia de este #postre frío y refrescante. Baste con señalar que, si bien el helado cremoso que conocemos en la actualidad tiene una larga historia, el Sundae aparece en escena es a fines del siglo XIX.

Este helado es una creación norteamericana, pero no tengo claridad en cuanto a su origen específico, pues hay varias localidades que claman ser la cuna de este postre, entre ellas tenemos a: Illinois, estado de Nueva York, Nueva Orleans, Luisiana, Cleveland, Ohio, Los Ángeles, y Búfalo.

Sin embargo, varias de las fuentes que leí señalaban insistentemente que la creación de este tipo de helado fue en Ithaca (ubicación en el condado de Tompkins, en Nueva York). Se cuenta en varias versiones que el nombre de este helado se debía a que fue una solicitud de helado hecha un domingo, otra fuente dice que se debe a que, el 5 de octubre de 1892, el ‘Ithaca Daily Journal’ publicó el primer anuncio del helado en un domingo.

Sin embargo, hay otra referencia anterior, es de 1881, y dice que el señor George Hallauer pidió al farmacéutico Edward Berners un helado y era un día domingo, Berners fue un tanto creativo en la preparación del helado y dio nacimiento al Sundae.

En realidad, no tengo claro cuál de todos estos datos será el más confiable.

Pero, considerando al helado en sí, creo que no me importa mucho esos detalles.

No logro recordar cuando comí este helado por primera vez. Supongo que fue en la infancia, cuando estaba de paseo por la capital con una de mis tías y nos detuvimos en una heladería. Me gustan los helados, y este en particular fue interesante.

El Sudae es, en general, un helado cubierto con una salsa dulce de almíbar o jarabe, decorado con nata montada y (generalmente) adornada con frutos picados (creo que los más frecuentes son las cerezas y las fresas). Y en el caso del sundae de hoy, se trata de que, en la receta, al momento de servir el #sundae para comerlo, se le rocía una generosa cantidad de caramelo caliente, o puede ser sirope de chocolate caliente. El contraste del choque de temperaturas hace que esta preparación sea interesante.

En lo personal, me he puesto un poco nostálgico. Esos recuerdos de infancia son bastante mágicos. Bueno, ya es tiempo de que me despida, te deseo que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer de nuevo en otra oportunidad.
