Today is Friday, the work week ends, although in my case it doesn't mean much because I work from home and as a freelancer. So, if I get a job that I can take on the weekend, I'm going to take it. My day has been calm and delightfully quiet, the kind of day I like. Although Friday night is often associated with going out partying with colleagues or partners, that's something I've left for memory.

It's like the joke that 'One day you're young, and the next day…' and here you put anything that serves to exemplify something that people who are no longer young usually say. And the phrase is so versatile that I even think it can be considered a Meme. Let's change the subject, I'd rather comment on a #food celebration that a colleague told me about today: Chocolate Cupcake Day.

I was a little surprised when the friend told me that in a bakery near his house, they were on sale on #chocolate cupcakes for the celebration of his day. It just so happens that I remember that International #CupcakeDay is on December 15th, and today is October 18th. Well, it turns out that there is more than one day to celebrate this #dessert.

It even seems that there are other days on the calendar to celebrate cupcakes of other flavors. The friend who brought this up to me currently lives in the United States, and that makes sense with the question of the party, since the cupcake is properly from the North American pastry.

The origin of the cupcake seems to date back to the 18th century, when Amelia Simms published her cookbook “American Cookery” (1796). Due to its presentation, in some cases it can be associated with Magdalenas (or Madeleines) or Muffins, but they are quite different things, although I think that the cupcake may be a dessert that was derived from this other two. The latter is pure speculation on my part, because they really do look a bit alike.

The muffin is from the British pastry industry, and is easily differentiated from the cupcake by traditionally using oat flour, instead of wheat flour, in its recipe. While the Madeleines, which are of French origin, use oil in their traditional recipe and are not decorated, while the cupcakes have in their recipe the use of butter, and it is very common to add decoration to their cover.

Although their creation is already more than two centuries old, their peak of popularity dates back to the current century. This brings to mind several TV #baking shows that established competitions for making this dish, and I found them interesting.

Well, I guess that would be all for today's post, although I am left with the desire to eat a cupcake right now (personal smile), at least I am going to the #kitchen to prepare a hot chocolate to satisfy the appetite that this post has awakened in me.

Hoy es viernes, termina la semana laboral, aunque en mi caso no significa mucho porque trabajo desde casa y como autónomo. Así que, si me llega un trabajo que pueda sacar el fin de semana, voy a tomarlo. Mi día ha sido calmado y deliciosamente tranquilo, la clase de día que me gusta. Aunque la noche del viernes se le asocia en varias ocasiones con salir de juerga con colegas o compañeros, eso es algo que yo he dejado para la memoria.

Es como el chiste de que ‘un día eres joven, y al siguiente…’ y acá se coloca cualquier cosa que sirva para ejemplificar alguna cosa que suele decir la gente que ya no es joven. Y la frase es tan versátil que incluso creo que se le puede considerar un Meme. Mejor cambiemos de tema, prefiero comentar sobre una celebración de #comida que un colega me comentó hoy: Día del Cupcake de Chocolate.

Me sorprendí un poco cuando el amigo me comentó que en una pastelería cerca de su casa estaban en oferta los cupcakes de #chocolate por la celebración de su día. Sucede que recuerdo que el Día Internacional del #Cupcake es el 15 de diciembre, y hoy es 18 de octubre. Bueno, pasa que hay más de un día de celebración para este #postre.

Incluso parece que hay otros días del calendario para celebrar cupcakes de otros sabores. El amigo que me comentó la cuestión vive actualmente en Estados Unidos, y eso tiene sentido con la cuestión de la fiesta, pues el cupcake es propiamente de la repostería norteamericana.

El origen del cupcake parece que se puede remontar al siglo XVIII, cuando Amelia Simms publicó su libro de recetas de cocina “American Cookery” (1796). Debido a su presentación, en algunos casos se le puede asociar con las Magdalenas o con los Muffin, pero son cosas bastante diferentes, aunque creo que puede que el cupcake sea un postre que se derivó de estos otros dos. Esto último es pura especulación de mi parte, porque en serio se parecen un poco.

El muffin es de la repostería británica, y se diferencia fácilmente del cupcake por usar tradicionalmente harina de avena, en lugar de harina de trigo, en su receta. Mientras que las Magdalenas, que son de raíces francesas, usan en su receta tradicional aceite y no se decoran, mientras que los cupcakes tiene en su receta es el uso de mantequilla, y es muy común agregarles decoración en su cubierta.

A pesar de que su creación ya tiene más de dos siglos, su auge de popularidad se cuenta a partir del siglo actual. Esto me trae a la memoria varios programas de TV de #reposteria que establecieron competencias de elaboración de este platillo, y yo los encontraban interesantes.

Bueno, supongo que ya sería todo por el post de hoy, aunque me quedo con las ganas de comer un cupcake en este momento (sonrisa personal), cuando menos voy a la #cocina a prepararme un chocolate caliente para satisfacer el apetito que este post me ha despertado.
