Your son is so cute.

We grow Seminole squash which is a lot like yours. We put ours in the microwave to cook, after cutting and taking the seeds out turn them upside down on a safe plate and cook for 5 minutes, take it out and turn over, coat the inside with butter, and fill the inside with apples that have been covered in sugar and cinnamon cover with saran wrap and cook another 10 min or until it is tender. If you do not like a microwave it can be cooked in the oven like you did. We have used other fruit for filling, too.
