Today, our family observed a special Sabbath, where we did no work and listened to teachings online. We blew the shofar to honor this special day.
Many people call this day "Rosh Hashanah" (head of the year), but biblically it's called "Yom Turuah" (Day of Shouting) Nowhere in the bible is the seventh month called a "new year".
On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. It is a day for you to sound the trumpet." Numbers 29
Our sacred assembly was our family! Our regular work was ceased today (until sundown) and we sounded the trumpet.
Also called "Yom Hekasak", the concealed day. Because it's a new month, the moon is concealed in darkness. Because we don't know when exactly the new month begins, it's also the event that "no one knows the day or hour". It's possible that Heaven and earth will pass away on this day in the future.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away, but concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. Matthew 24:36
Also called "Yom HaDin", the day of judgment. It's believed this is the day when the books in heaven are opened and our deeds are reviewed over the next ten days. After the ten days, a determination is made concerning the next cycle at the seventh month.
Also called "Yom HaZekarim", the day of commeration. This is from the scripture:
'On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with shofar blasts.' Leviticus 23:24
We are remembering when the trumpet call announces the Jubilee year, every 50 years. There is some thought that this trumpet call THIS YEAR is the announcement of the forgiveness of debts, HaYovel, the Jubilee.
Today is also known as Resurrection day, the day of the Trumpet call of God:
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
What an amazing thought, that the return of Messiah would be on this day someday, the heavens rolling up like a scroll, the stars falling like figs from a tree. A day unlike any other day in history.
