I got up early before the rest of the family and after my morning routine, I looked outside and noticed it was about to rain. The sun was up and I figured this would be an excellent opportunity to get a head start on weeding the front lawn.
The area around the mailbox in particular caught my attention. It was covered in weeds, where there used to be wood chips. The street flooding had washed them away and provided a fertile spot for the rouge plants to grow.
But now it's time to restore this plot!
While I was weeding, a crew came and began removing branches from the tree across the street. My family was very sad because they liked that tree, but I reminded them that it's not our property, not our tree and not our business. This tree was damaged a few years back in a storm and has had a big orange "X" spray painted on it. We expected it cut down last summer, but it never happened.
All the children watched out the window. They don't like change much, so there were some tears.
It was very noisy as the chipper shredded the large branches. We felt the ground shake as large sections of wood fell down onto the street.
After cutting down a portion of the tree, they left for the day. I suppose it's a multi-day project. Most of the tree is still intact. Perhaps it was just a trim!
I finished the weeding and it looks so much better!
So satisfying seeing a spot in the yard overgrown, trimmed back to order and made neat again. Being a home-owner is hard work... now it's off to evening door knocking!
