The thought of Ghosts never frightened me around the graveyard as they seem to do others. The primary school in our village was near a graveyard, and that was the school I attended as a kid. We used to play with the graves a lot whenever we were free. Dead bodies under the ground were nothing but normal to us.
I joined the village’s youth group when I grew up there and helped out with communal projects. Grave digging was one of the communal work we usually do. I did a bit of grave digging during this time. Digging holes into which the dead would be laid did not scare me at all. It just happened as part of participating in that group.
Others while telling ghost stories made me wonder if ghosts are really true. It had been something I’d only heard about from other people who claimed to have had scary things happen to them but I never had my own ghost experience so such occurrences make me think there might be another explanation for those people who claim that they have seen ghosts.
In my opinion, once death had occurred in the village, we just buried him/her and that was all I knew about it. We used to play around the graveyard without any problem. And even during nights, we still felt comfortable walking outside. When we go to a neighboring village to attend a night party, we do pass the big graveyard with no fear of a ghost in mind. To me, graveyards were quiet places not haunted ones as some people paint them.
So what are the submissions I have on ghosts? Being raised in a village where death was simply part of life, I find it difficult to believe that ghosts are really dead people spirits returning. So there must be another power at work if individuals can claim to have seen ghosts. Despite all the tales, I still doubt if indeed they exist.
However, my background in a rural setting makes me feel otherwise for saying that there are no ghosts. In our upbringing death was a common phenomenon which we got accustomed to rather than scared of it at all. The graveyard never gave us any reason to be fearful even as children.
But wouldn’t something strange have happened among us from being with our dead and their gravesites if they existed? But everything seemed normal and ordinary to me. They never came back as spirit entities as far as I can tell .
Well, I am willing to accept the possibility of some spiritual energy that could lead to witnessing ghosts. However, this does not match with my observations growing up that ghosts are actually souls of the dead coming back. This can’t be all there is.
In the end, everyone’s life experiences will determine how they think about this matter. For me, my village upbringing doesn’t show any proof for belief in ghosts. On the other hand, I don’t want to completely disregard what others believe. It is likely that science will finally find out the cause behind claims of being haunted by spirits.
However, I shall remain doubtful of traditional ghosts at least until such a time science has better explanations. Nevertheless, as I acquire more knowledge, I may alter my opinions about this topic.
What do you think after reading what I’ve said? Can you share your thoughts about your beliefs on this topic?
