Last week i went back home to celebrate my mother’s birthday. We went out to eat and then to a play.
The play was the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol”. But the was the musical version.
The cast did a very good job conveying the original intent of the book. Most of the characters had good singing voices so it was a pleasure to listen to as well.
As with the book, the play opens in the village square as the business for the day is winding down. Scrooge is a very demanding business man and does not condone providing any leeway in contract term. If you agree to pay then you need to pay your loan even if it is Christmas eve
Thus this sets the stage for what is yet the come snd the visits from the three ghosts.
I had never viewed “A Christmas Card” performed as a play much yet as a musical. Having read the story many of times and watched many of the different modern day versions of the tale. I was able to keep up with the story and also understood the meanings behind the lyrics of every song.
I always forget there are two acts with a 15 minute intermission so the play lasts for two and a half hours. Sitting for that long is tiring so the 15 minute intermission is a welcomed break.
The character that played Tiny Tim did an excellent job. The ending always warms my heart.
