Memories From Yesterday - A Rare Journey

in Hive Learners8 months ago

An adventurous yesterday, I'll call it and it is mainly because of my journey back home after spending months away in another state. The excitement was there, early preparations were made, everything went smoothly for me to begin my journey back home.

It isn't my first time travelling from one state to another but yesterday's own was a first because I had to travel out of a village I was posted to and I had to follow a route I'm not familiar with... Imagine being on a bike riding through bushy road with no sight of main roads or even people.

At a point, I got scared and almost let my imagination get the better part of me but we got to a main road before it happened. All my excitement of travelling back home reduced as I continued the journey, it became a too long journey because of the route the vehicles kept taking us through.

I didn't get on the journey early enough as I expected I wouldn't spend more than five hours in my journey. For one who rarely sleeps in a traveling vehicle, I made sure I had my phone charged and took along what I may eat while we're on the way.

Getting off the bike, I entered a bus that took me to where I'll go directly to my destination. Why I call this journey a rare one are for many reasons... First, it was a driver asking me to pick a call for him since he was driving. I don't usually like to sit at the front in public vehicles but I did yesterday and it made me experience that.

Another was when I went on a search of a particular fruit I wanted to buy to take to my mum at home. It was surprising that I couldn't find the fruit in the village I was travelling from but I saw a lot of them at the state capital where things were quite expensive. I had no choice but to get the ones I could buy, it's just important that I bought some home.

Finally seated in the bus that will take me home directly, I was met with a very rare sight which made the whole journey very unique for me. Here's what happened!

A young man came through the window of the bus to ask for monetary help from a fellow passenger with the story that "He got stranded and needs to go back to Port Harcourt". The passenger who was seated on the seat in front of me asked him where he was going to in Port Harcourt and he replied.

"Would you join us for the journey if I ask you to come sit down?" the passenger asked him again and he replied that he would. Like it was some joke, the young man got into the bus and was ready to follow us to Port Harcourt.

I don't know about other countries but here in Nigeria, we do have people who choose beg to avoid working so I actually thought the guy was one of them. He sat quietly all through the journey until I got off and I still can't shake it off my mind to have witness such a sight.

If really he was going to Port Harcourt but got stranded, he got really lucky to have met that passenger who paid his fare and even bought food for him on the way. That sight made my day really. The rest of the day was normal... Resting away and finding my way to Hive to engage for the day.

Oh my! You answered a phone call for the driver? This girl you have mind Sha 😂.

Wow, that last experience is totally unique and it has changed my perspective now about those stranded people.

Thank you so much for sharing it with us 🥰

Yeah, maybe not really all are just beggars who refused to work.

Yeah, I don't think so anymore

Hehe. That was cool 😎. Good Samaritan still exists on earth. And it might even be that the guy might be who you thought he was but had to play along with the available offer

That's what I think too but I can't be so sure 😅 he kept explaining himself as we travelled to PH lol

Hello there, Merit.
First off, I have been in a similar situation. Before I gained admission into the university, I traveled to another state to get some documents. One of my friends knew the route, so I went with him on a bike. Halfway into the journey, I did not see anyone on the road. Not even a bike. I started imagining stuff. Thankfully, a car passed and it “brought me back to life.”

It is nice that good people still exist in this world. Not so many people can do what that person did.

Lol the way I was brought back to life when I saw a main road with vehicles ehn 😅

Indeed, I was really surprised.

Glad you travelled and arrived safely home.

For that guy I can relate to meeting people like that often, I would have also have same mindset that he's only begging and not really going there, if he only enter to not look like a lie then, he's on a long thing, but if it's the other way then lucky him.

Lol same thoughts here, he would have to beg to go back to where he was if he was lying about Port Harcourt as his destination 😅
