If Sugarlady was a title, I bet I would be crowned with this title for as long as I can remember not until recently, when I started becoming conscious and intentional about leading a healthy lifestyle, which definitely includes my food input, and sourcing the right nutrient for my body, reducing my sugar intake as totally eradicating sugar from one's body system is impossible. Sugar also has its benefits for our body, and some of the food we eat gets broken down to glucose/sugar for energy, moderation remains the key.
I used to be that girl/lady who couldn't do without sugary stuff, from cakes to candy, and chocolates, think about all those sweet goodness, I had packs of them in my room because I couldn't do a day without them, thankfully I didn't get fat from consuming those junk, but my mum would constantly nag about my addiction to sugary stuff and sometimes seizes them to distribute to others which usually got me upset,
she thought the female monthly circle would be the deal to put a stop to my sweet tooth, but no, I am among the lucky percentage that hardly feel any cramp during this period, then it graduated to fizzy drinks, this one particularly was due to stress of adulthood, imagine working on a sunny day and feeling less energy, my refill was always a coke drink, I became a regular customer, that even the seller was scared for me, lol at least I wasn't among the weirdos that add sugar to their food, I read beans on someone's post, like for real? Lol
The Turning Point
About 2 years back, I was given a contract to design costumes for some group of dancers, while at the location, I met a pretty lady dancing with so much energy and grace, I was truly impressed because she danced for hours, all the while the contract was still on for about two months into it, I was feeling she was my age mate and wondered why others were giving her extra respect, and thought it was because she was obviously rich not until she invited me to her home to measure her husband and son, entering her beautiful richly decorated sitting room, I met the shocker, the lady was above 50 years, because there I saw portraits of her celebrating her 50th birthday, I asked her, to be sure it was really her, she laughed at my shock and said exercise and a sugar-free lifestyle helped her maintain her young look and glow, then she had already clocked 53, this year makes her 55 and she is still as strong, young and glowed up like she never aged a day after 25.
Then and there I resolved to be intentional about the lifestyle I chose for myself, what I was unserious about stopping for years came like an awakening, also looking that I would be clocking 30 soon, made me take my body and health seriously. And strategies that help me control my sugar intake are first making a conscious effort so I get reminded any time I'm going astray, also eating to satisfaction, healthy and nutritious meals when hungry, as I realized that hunger makes me crave sugary stuffs to refill my energy.
Since I also want my kids to adopt a healthy lifestyle, I make sure to be a good example, by juicing fruits for them or just eating them like that instead of canned drinks, and so far this lifestyle has helped me curb my sugar intake, I want to enjoy my body as I age gracefully, instead of suffering health challenges due to the unhealthy lifestyle in my youth, it is better to start now before it gets too late.
