In Times of Depression, Seek Companion

Life is made up of ups and down, we get excited when things go our way, but when things go south, even more than we ever imagine could happen to us, situations of life that we have no control over often lead us to a state of depression, which is an extreme form of sad feeling, and it gets difficult for some to come out of this state, the reason why it is also termed a mental Illness, because at this point we lose control of our feelings, and suicidal or other harmful thoughts might take over. The worst type of depression is when people around the depressed fellow can't even detect it, because they still walk around with pretend smiling faces, only for a suicide note to be the last message you receive from them. Yes, it's that deadly, so it's important for us to always check up on loved ones and friends, you never know how far your comforting words can go.

During my secondary school days, I once had a friend who just enrolled as a new student in SS2 bcass, she always kept to herself that the other student thought she was a proud type because she was very pretty as well, but I assumed it was because she was still new, but there was no changes after several weeks, worst still, she never did well in her class works and test, that one would think she was a dull type, so others stayed cleared of her since she acted rude as well, but as young as I was then, I could see through her, those characters were symptoms of how she felt inside of her, no matter how upset she gets when I try talking to her, I don't mind, and made fun out of every action she displayed, that she got tired of chasing me away, soon we became friends, that was when she opened up to me about losing her father in a car accident, who was the breadwinner of their family, and her wicked uncles took over his properties, which made her and her siblings to drop out of the more wealthy school they once attended because her mother couldn't afford it anymore, so she missed all her friends and her dad even more, his demise made life more difficult for them.

I understood how she felt, and her attitude were just the symptoms of depression she felt, I consoled her with the thought that her daddy is now in heaven which is even more a better and beautiful place than we are and he is now an angel watching over them, those were the same words my mum was told which she also told me and my siblings when we lost our last born baby sister, and it consoled us. Same way, my friend Joy felt consoled and began to loosen up with time and made more friends in school, she even became one of the top three students in class, you can imagine the influence depression had over her, thankfully she bounced back.

That experience thought me that by sharing our problems with someone close and trusted, it is the first step to unburden ourselves from depression, don't chase your families and friends during your difficult trying times, you would need their strength to bounce back on.

Thank you for reading.❤❤

There are good and bad times in life, but during bad times, when people say wrong things to us, we go into depression because of that, so it is better to cut off contact with such people.

True, it's best to stay close to people who encourage us to look at the positive side of life.

Yeah.

You know it's not easy to lost a person and consoling someone who is mourning someone special they've lost, it requires special grace and I see you're loaded with it already. Kudos to you for coming in for the gentle lady...

It isn't at all, I wasn't even sure of what I was doing then, all I wanted was for her to feel better, and I'm glad my words did console her.

I think if you cannot find good people to be around you then when in depression healthy habits during solitude like reading, journaling, creating video/audio and any good hobby can help a person cope with depression because some times a person might not be lucky to find some one to share their feelings with really.
