Education is the bedrock of all nations
This is how it should be in all parts of the world, education is not for everyone, because what's a world where everyone is educated then who would be at the top? No one would need to seek knowledge anywhere. There would be no value for education. Just like everyone can't be rich, we have the rich and the poor, so we have the literate and the illiterate too. That’s just the way of life.
It's a pity that in this part of the world where I am, we take education so seriously that we want it in a way that everyone will go to school and once you are not educated or bagged a certificate in any aspect of education then you are not valued in the society even in your family, you will look so useless or unserious.
We are all different, we all have our different talents, some are talented in vocational training, some people are technically oriented, some are gifted with sportsmanship and some are blessed with intelligence and wisdom.
We are all different. For example a child who has an interest in music right from their childhood should be inclined towards what they are passionate about. But here in this country, at the end of it all you see such children forced to study engineering in higher institutions, and at the end of the day they will revert to what they are passionate about and only a few are blessed with this.
There should be a basic level that everyone should be able to attend, at this level they will have all it takes to speak good and correct English and understand better what it takes to be knowledgeable, and then afterward they get to follow up with their passion, those interested in tech should find their way to technical colleges, those passionate about vocational should find their way to vocational schools, music-oriented should go to music schools, sports should be trained on their various fields. Not everyone just studies anything at the university.
This is one way I see that we can tackle this serious problem of educational sagacity in this country. The institutions should be there for those who are ready to study, courses like medicals, engineering, law, banking, and many more are to be for these set of ready people. This way we can provide proud graduates from different departments and employment opportunities.
Bachelor of Agriculture
I am a certified bachelor of agriculture from one of the federal institutions in Nigeria. One thing I am grateful for is the fact that I studied and became a graduate in what I am passionate about. I have loved agriculture and nature right from my childhood. Though at some point I was confused about what career path to thread, in the end, I remained inclined.
There are further degrees after the bachelor of agriculture, the master's degree, the Doctorate, and the professional degrees. But as for me, I am still going to take a pause here at my level. As I said, the educational system in Nigeria is not encouraging or even making it fair to further education.
So I am taking some time here after my bachelor's degree since my field is not about seeking a white-collar job or working full-time in an office, it’s mostly on practicals, real-life experience, on fieldwork, so I decided to focus my attention on that aspect for now and then on the long run, if I felt the need be for me to proceed to my masters level then i can apply. But I don't see the need for that anytime soon.
In my country, once you advance to masters and doctorate levels then you must have made up your mind towards working as an educator. So for me, I will just focus on building myself towards my career path practically, since at the end of it all experience remains the best teacher. All of these experiences won't be gotten in the four walls of the classroom. You still have to undergo training if you want to go into full-time practicals.
