It started last Sunday, April 07, 2024, the first working day of the week in Oman.
Let me tell you the background information. In Oman, Friday and Saturday are the weekly off days for the Government job holders. Last week, due to Eid, the announced holidays for the Omanis job holders were on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Along with the regular two days, they got long 5-day holidays!
But, those five days weren't enough for the sick leave seekers! They started their mission on Sunday. Some had genuine illnesses and many came only to get extra off days!
Those who came on Sunday, asked for two days off; meaning on Sunday and Monday. Hence, their holidays would be a total of 7 days!
A good number of patients came on Monday asking for one day off. Hence, they could enjoy 6 days of holidays in a row.
That was the pre-Eid story. What about the post-Eid story?
Today Sunday was the first working day for the Omani job holders. Five days (or six or seven days) off weren't enough for many of them. I consulted 30 patients today. Almost 50% of the Omani patients came for sick leave!! Only a handful of them had genuine illnesses that warranted a sick leave! Most of them wanted the sick leave paper to prolong their holidays!!
I was quite irritated at the end!!
