These days we talk a lot about Web 3.0 and what it will entail. There seem to be a lot of different opinions about that, and I have to admit that I sometimes find the whole thing somewhat baffling and overwhelming.

I find some peace in knowing that my long term orientation towards being part of the Hive ecosystem in some ways support this whole idea that we all become owners/businesses of these new communities that determined not by physical borders, but by some kind of common objective.

I definitely like the idea — perhaps as a bit of a clumsy metaphor — of Hive as the "country" and the various projects and communities built on Hive as Cities/Towns/Villages.

I have come across several discussions — primarily in the INLEO community — concerning whether we look at ourselves as builders or users.

From a philosophical perspective, I definitely think of myself as a community member, and I know that my orientation here is long term.

I've been at this for a while, and I would also say I am "building," although that building is not in the technical sense. But it is — in a very small way — building, in the sense that every bit of reward I have ever received (even if traded internally between native tokens) has been kept inside the community.

Whereas I think it is wonderful that we have so many "second layer" projects with tokens on Hive-Engine, I'm always surprised by how few people actually are even aware that there's anything happening there. That people are trying to build things.

I'm sure lots of people who read this will have been "tipped" by various tipping coins whether it is BEER or PIZZA, or LUV, or BBH or something else, and yet they are probably unaware of what each of those are actually trying to build or develop. Or, they are aware but they're only looking for whatever bit of token is coming their way, so they can turn around and sell it.

That's not building, to be sure!

From my earliest time here, I have believed that it is only right and fair that we support these projects to the best of our ability. Hence this account even came into existence, in the first place!

Sadly, the vast majority of Hive-Engine communities and other projects seem to have a way of failing miserably. One of the biggest problems they face is that people only clue into getting a few free tokens because they use a particulr tag... but — as I said — all they want to do with those tokens is sell them and collect cash, rather than re-invest them in the project (or SOME project) so the project can grow.

In a sense this is one of the fundamental problems virtually all "get paid to do anything" websites have ever faced. If you advertise to the world that you're going to reward them for something, people expect to be rewarded... that that reward becomes the focus of their attention. And, in most people's book, being rewarded doesn't mean that you earn some kind of reward and then hang on to it, it means you earn a reward and then you go out and buy pizza with it. That's a "real" reward, in their mind!

For a while now, my main objective has been to support the "Proof of Brain" community, and to build a stake in it the POB token to support that. Currently, I have slightly over 3,300 POB staked... on my way to (eventually!) 25,000 or so. Time will tell. It's a multi-year goal!

I have "lesser" goals I am working towards, as well... supporting and slowly building balances in various other projects... maybe I'll write more about them, in detail, at a future time.

This blog is the story of my journey... one tiny step at a time!
