Several weeks ago I considered embarking on seed planting and so I begun by planting a small garden right besides my fence at home and I chose to plant the groundnuts and corns. Being interested in gardening as well as getting tired of a regular grocery store meals, I was looking forward to see my plants grow.
First step I took that I deemed vital was to condition the ground, which meant that I needed to make the soil nutrient rich and well drained. Sowing of the groundnuts and corn seeds was easy, and from time to time, I watered them, and after a while the seeds began to germinate.
Day by day I observed the plants, and at the end of the week, the plants have developed and became vigorous. Leaves of the corn continued to flutter while the ground nuts started to form their typical hood on the ground. There are a lot of things I enjoyed in that year, but one of them is witnessing the payoff of months of hard work.
Apart from boasting of the advancement of my garden I was equally happy knowing that I was cultivating healthy and tasty foods right in my compound. Groundnuts provide the body with protein, good fats as well as other nutrients, while corn is very useful and can be incorporated into most recipes.
Since I began planting, I established a feeling of anticipation towards the harvest so that I can prepare foods and other related snacks from the yields of my garden. From roasted groundnuts to the barbequed corn on the cob, it all appeared to be possible.
Besides the desire of producing own food, I liked the opportunity to be close to the nature and have my own garden. Spend time of day gone outside to water the plants and to watch them work helped me to understand that the world needs help to be protected from people who are ruining the environment.
With the garden growing on, I realised that this was a good decision to have embarked on this project. I not only got fresh and organic vegetables right at my door step but also had fun watching them grow and blossom.
