Greetings!
Being engaged in doing something in terms of work is a very important thing to all human and this is because, it's the work of our hand that defines us, infact, I can boldly say that the works of our hand brings food to our table. No wonder there's an adage which says, " ones handiwork cannot deceive one." This adage is in my local Yoruba language and this means that, your handiwork will never betray you. So, it's good to work. When you work you earn. That's the simple law. And to be best of my knowledge, there's dignity in labour.
Going by what is obtainable in the world today, we have people doing all sorts of work ranging from the professionals such as the doctors, lawyers, bankers, teachers and so on. Also, we have those people that are not professional but are known as artisans. These people are the stylist, fashion designers, vulchanizers, bricklayers, mechanics and so on. Also, we have the business men and women, these are the people that are into business transaction, they are the big men and women in the society. What of the civil servant? These categories of people are the one working for government, they are in various government agencies and parastatals. They work in grades and levels until retirement.
Having listed all the categories of work that we have or I think we have, my question is that, how do or should we work?. This is a very serious question but to me, we have two different mode of working which I will briefly explain in this write up. We have smartwork and hardwork. These are two mode of working in my own opinion.
Let me start with hardwork or being hardworking. When you talk of working, there are some that work hard and they are being paid for their hardwork. These set of people work out there under the sun or even in the rain. Seriously, they work till they are tired and are opened to serious hazard in their place of work. These people are the set of people that works until sweat come out of their body. Thank God they are good worker, but are they earning equal to the drop of their sweat? The answer is a capital No! They only toil and toil with little stipend being given to them. Although we have people that also work hard to earn big. The likes of the footballers are good examples. These people really earn big. These people and other professionals earn big with their hardwork and sweat. But when talking about labourers in this part of the world, they only work like elephants and eat like ants. These are hard workers.
Sometimes in this year, I found myself working really hard on a particular pig farm, I used to work tirelessly that whenever I got home, I slept off without even eating talkless of doing other things. Then, I was happy doing the pig of a thing, but it was later I realized I was only busy doing nothing and this is because I was only working without nothing being shown for it. And it was then I realized that working hard may not really work for me, but to work smart.
When talking about smartwork or working smart, something that first came to my mind was a friend that bought a phone when we were at the NYSC one year mandatory service to our nation at okwelle, in imo state. Then, the friend bought a phone infinix smart 5 and this guy will not even allow us to breathe because of the word smart in his phone. This might seem or sounds like a joke, but seriously it's not but the simple truth. Now, back to working smart. Those smart workers are those people that knows what's meant to be, they are the critical thinker that see opportunities and not obstacles, they look for opportunities in their environment and hijack the opportunity, they are the creative people in the society, they move the society through their creativity. These set of people are not just working for working sake, they earn to earn big. They are the movers and the shakers of the world. They are the tech people of the world, the Elon musk of this world and his likes can be refer to as smart work. Though, everybody has a tendency of being a smart worker, but can't make the sacrifice to being a smart worker. If you go to any company, the boardroom are the real smart worker while the people working at the workshop or the field are the hard workers.
Now, it's now left for us to choose which worker we want to be, being a hard worker or a smart worker. But it's better to work smart rather than working hard. Like I said earlier, you can be a hard worker at your convenient time and spot. For instance, I made a reference to a friend that got a smart phone back then. The friend that I mentioned was the one that introduced me to hive. His name his @Kingsleyy, and I didn't know I can write anything until he introduce me to writing and ever since then, I have been trying my best. Though, not that good, but I think I have improved. There's also online businesses that can fetch more than being in the sun working hard. So working hard is good, but it will be better when you blend it with working smart.
