Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. It is time to tour the globe to have a look at today in history being saturday the 22/12/2024. We will commence today's look at history from Romania ...the downfall of a regime.

We begin today from Romania [The overthrowing of Nicolae Ceaușescu regime]. On this day in 1989, President Nicolae Ceaușescu's government was overthrown having held sway in power for 24 years in Romania. He was eventually captured alongside the wife by the military who tried and found him guilty of mass murder.

From Romania, we move over to Germany [the reopening of the Brandenburg Gate]. Do you also know that on this day in 1989, the Brandenburg Gate which is the only remaining town gate of Berlin, Germany which has served a dual purpose or symbol so far, that is, the division of Germany and the country’s reunification, was reopened today signalling the reunification of East and Western Germany.

From Germany, we move over to the USA [the posthumous birthday of Emperor Antoku]. Now, on this day in 1178, Antoku Tennō, the 81st Emperor of Japan was born in Kyōto, Japan.

From Japan, we move over to the USA [the posthumous birthday of Lady Bird Johnson]. Do you know that on this day in 1912, Lady Bird Johnson whose real names are Claudia Alta Taylor, the American first lady ( from 1963–1969), the wife of Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th President of the United States, was born in Karnack, Texas, U.S.A.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Croatia [the promulgation of the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia]. Do you know that on this day in 1990, The Constitution of the Republic of Croatia was promulgated. That 1990 constitution guaranteed several civil rights such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, right to use one's own language and so on.
