Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, friday the 11/10/2024 in history.

We begin today from The Vatican. Do you know that on this day in 1962, the Second Vatican Council, announced by Pope John XXIII in 1959 began, lasted three years, and is still a symbol (controversial to some) of the church's willingness to adapt to modern life.

From the Vatican, we move over to the USA. Do you also know that on this day in 2002, The United States Congress passed a bill by a large margin allowing President George W. Bush broad authority to employ force against Iraq.

From the USA, we move over to the world of space exploration. Now, on this day in 1984, Kathryn Sullivan, an American astronaut became the first woman to walk in space.

From space exploration, we move over to the world of football. Do you know that on this day in 1937, Bobby Charlton is a football (soccer) player and manager who is recognised as one of the best English footballers was born in Ashington, Northumberland, England.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from the world of space exploration. Do you know that on this day in 1958, the unmanned U.S. deep-space probe Pioneer 1 was launched into lunar orbit.

My good people, that will be all from me today. Let's do it again tomorrow.
