Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. It is time to tour the globe to have a look at today in history being wednesday the 1/1/2025. A big happy new year to all of us. This is the official first post of mine for the year. Let's begin our look at history for today from the carribeans.
We begin today from Haiti [the independence of Haiti ]. On this day in 1804, Haiti, a Caribbean country got her independence from France.
From Haiti, we move over to Cuba [the toppling of thr government of Fulgencio Batista]. Do you also know that on this day in 1959, Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista's government was toppled by rebel forces led by Fidel Castro and he unwittingly fled Cuba with his family to the Dominican Republic. Fulgencio Batista ruled Cuba as a dictator from 1952–1959.
From Cuba, we move over to the world of international organizations [the offical establishment of The World Trade Organization]. Now, on this day in 1995, The World Trade Organization (WTO) was formally established.
From the world of international organizations, we move over to the world of finance [the introduction of the Euro in Europe]. Do you know that on this day in 2002, the Euro which is the monetary unit and currency of the European Union (EU) was introduced as their sole currency.
From the world of finance, we move over to the Philippines [the birthday of Manuel Roxas]. Do you know that on this day in 1892, Manuel Roxas, a Philipino politician and the first President of the independent Republic of the Philippines (from 1946 – 1948) was born in Capiz, Phillipines.
Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from the Niger Republic [the birthday 🎂 of Mahamadou Issoufou]. Do you know that on this day in 1952, Mahamadou Issoufou who was the President of Niger Republic from 2011 to 2021 was born in Dan Daji, Niger Republic.
