Here I am paddling in the sea - the Inland Sea, to be precise - on a beach on the island of Ikuchijima (生口島) in western Japan.
That day, the missus and I were cycling along the coast of Ikuchijima on power-assisted bicycles that we rented when we arrived on the island. Included in the rental package were flip-flops and a beach towel, so it would've been rude not to have gone for a paddle to say the least.
We spent barely a quarter of an hour on the beach - Setoda Sunset Beach - before heading off on our bikes towards Tatara Bridge (多々羅大橋) that links Ikuchijima to another island called Omishima (大三島).
Gentleman's Beachwear, 2024
If you are wondering about my beachwear...
I was wearing a vintage pair of 3/4 length hiking trousers by the UK outdoor clothing company, Rohan. Those trousers must be at least 30 years old because I haven't bought any gear from Rohan for, well, decades, and it seems that Rohan doesn't produce them anymore, not for men at least.
As for the shirt, it is polyester-cotton number, soft and comfortable fabric, with button-down collar, one of the Brick House brand by the Tokyo Shirt Company.
The pork-pie hat is another vintage number, being at least a quarter of a century old, by the New York Hat and Cap Co.
In short, the perfect beachware on a hot summer's day, don't you think?
Cheers!
