Riding the Tsunami: Mastering Speed with the Water Element in Splinterlands

in Olio di Balena15 days ago

Hello, everyone and Splinterlands masters, how’s it going? Today, I want to share a battle story that had me shaking my head while laughing to myself. Who would’ve thought that the seemingly calm Water element could leave me feeling like I was hit by a tsunami of strategy? This isn’t just about losing; it’s a life lesson: speed is everything. For many players, the Water element might already be a favorite.

The Ruleset and My (Initially) Genius Plan

This time, the ruleset was Explosive Weaponry (every attack deals blast damage to the target's adjacent monsters—cool, right?) and Tis But Scratches (physical attacks apply a Cripple effect). The only usable elements were Water and Life, with a 54-mana cap. I thought, "Alright, time to be a genius."

I chose the Water element with a strategy I thought was brilliant. My lineup:

  • DEEP LURKER
  • ISGALD VORTS
  • KULU MASTERMIND
  • TIDE BITER (my go-to for absorbing blast damage)
  • COMMANDER SLADE
  • DJINN OSHANNUS

The idea was simple: Opportunity attacks would sneak in and explode the enemy from unexpected angles, while TIDE BITER would absorb counterattacks and incoming blast damage at the front. But… plans are just plans.

The Opponent’s Avengers Squad

On the other side, my opponent also chose the Water element, but they came in with what looked like a dream team. Their summoner was POSSIBLUS THE WISE, clearly wiser than I was.

And check out their lineup:

  • DAARG DEADBLAST (Weapon Training—intimidating right off the bat)
  • KULU MASTERMIND (training BAAKJIRA, a tough and flexible monster)
  • NOA THE JUST
  • COASTAL SENTRY
  • DIEMONSHARK

And they didn’t mess around. They had buffs like Slow, No Armor, and Trample. On top of that, their monsters were as fast as Sonic—the fastest had 5 speed, while my fastest was only 4. I was left stunned.

The Battle: When Hope Gets Shattered

Round one? Total disaster. My monsters didn’t even get a chance to say “Hi” before getting obliterated by Opportunity and magic attacks. COMMANDER SLADE, my pride and joy, toppled like a mighty tree felled by the wind. Honestly, it felt like watching a movie where I was the disposable side character who dies first.

By round two, I was down to two monsters. But what could they do? My opponent’s lineup was still intact, while I was left praying for a miracle that, obviously, never came. And by the end of the round? A crushing defeat.

Lessons Learned

What did I learn from this battle? Splinterlands is a game of ups and downs. Winning and losing come and go, and every loss brings lessons to help you rise again. From this match, I took away these points:

  1. Never underestimate the Water element. Their monsters are fast, and their attacks are deadly. The Water tribe is already speedy, and it becomes even more formidable with buffs.
  2. Sometimes, a brilliant strategy in your head is just an illusion. 😅 We can plan, but the results might differ. Your opponent will also craft the best strategy to counter you.
  3. Pick high-speed monsters when the ruleset favors first strikes. Trample effects and heavy hitters will crush your team if you’re not cautious. Pay attention to speed.

Closing Note

So, for all of you Splinterlands players out there, remember: speed matters, but also enjoy your losses, especially if you can learn something from them. I hope this story inspires you to keep experimenting with new strategies in Splinterlands. See you on the battlefield, and let’s conquer those challenging rulesets together! 🎮 Cheers! 🎮
