God will draw near to you.
James 4 verse 8, Come near to God, and He will come near to you.
James 4 verse 8 offers a powerful truth. If we make the effort to approach God, He will meet us where we are.
It sounds simple, but how does this look in everyday life? A personal invitation.
The verse, Come near to God, and He will come near to you, is an invitation. It's like getting a message from a friend saying, Come over, and I'll be there waiting. God invites us to connect with Him, to draw close.
Just like a friend who's there for us in good times and bad, God is always available, welcoming us with open arms. Think about it. Have you ever had a friend or family member say, If you need anything, just let me know?
God's invitation is like that, but on a grander scale. He's saying, I'm here. If you come close, I'm ready to meet you. All it takes is the willingness to reach out, like sending a text to that friend. The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.
Psalm 145 verse 18. God's promise is not just in words, but in His presence. When we genuinely reach out, He is already on His way to meet us.
Small steps make a big difference. Drawing near to God doesn't require massive life-altering moves. Small, steady steps count. Imagine learning an instrument.
At first, the idea of mastering it can feel overwhelming. But when you start by practicing a few minutes each day, it gradually gets easier and your skills grow.
The same goes for building a relationship with God. Starting with small acts, like reading a verse a day, whispering a short prayer, or simply sitting in silence, opens doors to deeper understanding.
It's these little habits that create a lasting bond with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you.
1 Chronicles 28 verse 9. Each step you take, however, brings you closer to God's presence. Just like those small practice sessions make you better at the instrument, small moments with God tune your spirit to His.
Turning off the noise. Think of God like a calm voice on the other side of a busy street. To hear Him clearly, we need to step out of the crowd and quiet our surroundings.
Life can feel overwhelming, with endless notifications, responsibilities, and stressors competing for our attention. Drawing near to God often means intentionally, turning off this noise to focus on Him.
Imagine being in a crowded room with a friend. You'll naturally lean in, blocking out other sounds to listen better. The same goes for drawing near to God. It's a choice to turn down the volume on everything else and listen. Be still, and know that I am God.
Psalm 46 verse 10. When we quiet ourselves, we make room for God's voice, and it becomes easier to feel His presence in our lives.
Trusting like a child. Coming near to God is important. Trusting like a child is also about trusting Him with childlike faith.
Have you ever seen how a child will naturally cling to a parent when they feel scared or uncertain?
They don't analyze or hesitate. They simply trust that they'll be taken care of. God calls us to have this same faith. He doesn't ask us to come with everything figured out or even without a doubt just that we come to Him with openness.
Just as a child runs to a parent for comfort and guidance, we are invited to approach God, Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.
Mark 10 verse 15
God wants us to come as we are, trusting that He'll hold us securely, even if we don't understand every detail. A relationship, not a ritual.
Finally, drawing near to God isn't about checking off religious tasks. It's like having a relationship with a close friend. Imagine if you only spoke to a friend out of obligation.
There would be no depth or joy. God wants us to seek Him with sincerity, not because we feel like we have to, but because we want to. It's okay if we're not perfect or don't have all the answers.
The journey is more about relationship than rituals. Just like a friend appreciates genuine effort over grand gestures, God values our sincere desire to be close to Him, even if it's a small start. Draw near to God with a sincere heart and full assurance of faith.
Hebrews 10 verse 22. Drawing near to God is an invitation to experience His presence, comfort, and guidance. It's not about being flawless but about showing up with an open heart.
Just like any relationship, it grows over time, through small acts and genuine effort. Remember, God promises that if we come near to Him, He will meet us right where we are, welcoming us every step of the way.
