You can tell what has power over you based on what you don't resist.
I hear a lot of people say, "oh I can stop this addiction, I can stop watching this, I can stop going here if I wanted to". But you're not stopping.

The definition of surrender literally means to stop resisting, to cease resistance to. So whatever you don't resist, you're surrendering to. If you're not resisting what's not God, you're definitely resisting God.
Whether that be cultures, ideals that said you can do things a certain way and look a certain way and you can still be okay. Whether that be a friendship, whether that be morals or values that line up with what you think is right and acceptable to your standards instead of God's.
Whatever it is that you've allowed yourself to submit to and not resist over what the word says, over what God says, it becomes an idol in your life. And remember, an idol is anything that hinders or prohibits our full service to God, including what his word says.
Just because it's not a sin doesn't mean that it's profitable for your relationship with him. Just because you could do it don't mean you should do it.
You have to ask yourself the golden question. Because if it's not, it's ultimately pulling me away.
