It is finally here, Soulkeep has dropped and what a banger it is! I have been following the news about Soulkeep and we kept hearing that it will drop soon and then suddenly on X I saw there were people reported playing it and it was released!! It has been a long time in the making, but since the new devs stepped in, they have worked at top speed to get the game released.
I immediately went to the Splinterlands website and dived in to play straight away. I am generally liking tower defense type games on my phone, so have been looking forward to this one for some time.
The concept of tower defense is pretty simple, but here you can see the short overview. Buy towers and spells with your available mana and place them around the map trying to utilise the maximum power against the bad guys.
The graphics in the game are pretty good and fluid. There are however parts which are obscure and there is no explanation of what they mean and what you should do, such as after you click battle:
What does this mean and should you do anything? Some guidance would be good for new players, even just to hover over things with an explanation or something. There are 2 game modes, the free normal battle mode and then the tournament section where you need NFTs I think and you can then earn from the SPS prize pool. Im not so keen on prize pool % type things, it gives me the Hashkings vibe where they had prize pools and it was a mess and intransparent who wins what.
The graphics and towers are good and satisfying. One of the first things you will search for is how to turn the music off though! As tower defense games go, it is fun to play.
After you complete a wave, you earn souls that you need to progress to the next level.
So far I am grinding my way through league 1 and hope to get to league 2 shortly. It is worth progressing as you unlock more towers and can see more of the features in the game.
As with many tower defense games, you can speed up the timer and then watch your game at a faster speed which is cool, although you may miss where you might have made a mistake. Usually there are some tricks you need to do on a certain wave in order to get past it. The game is pretty simple so far and way less advanced than some of the mobile tower defense games out there.
Of course this is web 3 and there are NFTs and crypto to earn which takes it to another level that those other games miss. Owning your own assets and trading cards with other players is really cool inside the Splinterlands eco-system on Hive which is the best out there in my opinion.
I opened my first nightmare pack and got my first Soulkeep NFTs. I need these to play the tournament version and start earning in the game. This was an amazing pull, getting a gold foil straight away!
You can also buy single NFTs that you want on Peakmonsters already. I saw my common Knife Tosser costs $0,60 which seems a good pull. I really like the idea to get NFTs and use them in the game, so am excited to start my Soulkeep collection.
I decided to buy the rest of my common towers at level 1 already to bolster my collection. My gold foil Armor Piercer that I pulled is the highest value NFT that I have so far, it is worth $4,60. I would like to add a hero next, so need to research those options.
Have you played Soulkeep yet?
