Evoland is a delightfully weird game. It's an action adventure game that parodies multiple genres and tropes to bring a result that's hard to classify into one genre.
The game lets is about a journey to save the world while unlocking tropes and mechanics to help you do so. You start with basically nothing in a 2D top-down view space and you unlock features as you go. Even basic movement has to be unlocked. As you keep unlocking more features, you'll have a quick journey toward the evolution each gaming era brought.
Evoland is humorous and light-hearted game. It felt like I'm playing Zelda at first, then when the Turn-based battles got introduced, I felt like I was playing a classic Final Fantasy. Then when 3D got into the picture, it felt like playing a Zelda games again.
This video is me playing the first 30 minutes of the Evoland. O played more than an hour after that, but it's not in this recording. (Tell me if you want to see it.) I really enjoyed each evolution Evoland's systems and viusals gone through. I enjoyed this game greatly.
