Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a great week so far. It's Tuesday again which means it Three Tune Tuesday. First I want to thank @ablaze for starting and continuing to support the weekly event. It's a lot of fun to hear music from around the world, and I routinely find new things to listen to almost weekly. This week I'm kicking things off with an ounce of silver that gives you an idea of what's to come in the music selections.
This silver round I picked up years ago and it's been so long I don't remember where I bought it. It might have been in Phoenix, Arizona... Have a look, it's pretty cool!
About the round
I've always loved this round because of it's great design and subject matter. Get your kicks on Route 66, what else to say? It's pure silver and commemorates one of the most iconic highways in the history of the United States. They are still being produced by the Sunshine Mint and are available at APMEX for $3.50 over spot which isn't too bad. Plus if you buy one from them it's probably going to have a lot less milk spots than the one I own!
Route 66
Route 66 was a highway that originated in Chicago, Illinois and passed through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and ending in Santa Monica, California pretty much right at the beach and the Santa Monica pier. It was created in 1926 as the automobile was becoming standard throughout much of the country. The problem was there really were no direct highways crossing the western part of the country. Routh 66 was the first real connection of roads from east to west.
All along the highway there were attractions that people could stop and admire. The now ghost town of Two Guns in Arizona even featured a diner, gas station, a zoo, and campground for traveler's to stop and enjoy. Owning a business along the road with some sort of attraction was very profitable at the time.
President Eisenhower changed things with the creation of the interstate system to better connect the nation in 1956. Once Interstate 40 was completed along pretty much the same route the old highway was used less and less. In 1984 in was decertified as a highway and much of the old road was abandoned. But it left a lasting mark on the culture on the United States until today.

Now for some music!
Chuck Berry

Chuck Berry was one of the first innovators of rock music and even referred to as the father of rock and roll. He was a talented guitarist that started his career in the early 1950's . He had a string of hit songs throughout the decade including "Maybellene" and "Johnny B. Goode". In 1961 he did a great cover of "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66" that was first performed by Bobby Troup back in the 1940's. Here's Chuck Berry's version of the song:
Beach Boys

Since Route 66 would take you from Chicago, Illinois all the way to Santa Monica, California it only feels right to add in something by the "Beach Boys". Formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California they became huge stars through the use of vocal harmonies. They produced hit after hit throughout the 1960's and are a classic American band. One of their biggest hits was "California Dreamin'":
AC/DC

I know I've shared this band from down under more than a few time, and it's because they're a lot of fun to listen to. Plus it's always fun to finish off the trio with a fun song. AC/DC formed in 1973 in Sydney, Australia and have become one of the biggest names in rock and roll history. They continue to write and perform to this day and never fail to put on a good show!
Although "Highway To Hell" has absolutely nothing to do with Route 66, it's still a highway song. So here we go:
And just in case you're interested, Route 66 used to pass through Gallup, New Mexico where it connected with Route 666, known as the devil's highway. It was originally a two lane highway and had a very high rate of fatalities along it's stretch in New Mexico before passing through Colorado and ending in Utah. Many people claimed it to be cursed because of all the deaths along the highway.
Eventually the road was widened and the fatalities dropped dramatically. Another problem they had is the signs kept being stolen, so they renamed it Highway 491. I personally have driven along the road all the way from Gallup, NM all the way to Utah several times, almost always in the middle of the night. It's a very dark road and I think that's why people feel it's so creepy. But I didn't see any ghosts or the devil...
Here's the old versus the new signage:

I bet you didn't see that twist coming at the end of a post about Route 66! There's nothing like a good twist at the end of book or movie, so I figured why not?
I hope you enjoyed my selections for #threetunetuesday and the shiny silver to start it all off. Please feel free to ask any questions or add any comments below. Thank you everyone for all of your support, it is greatly appreciated! Have a great Tuesday!
