Happy Wednesday! Today I thought I would go back to the Silver Strikers. The one I'm sharing today is an interesting token from a very small defunct casino in Jean, Nevada by the name of Whiskey Pete's. They still operate a casino in Primm, Nevada just off the I-15 as you cross from California into Nevada if you're interested. This one in particular features the infamous criminal couple Bonnie and Clyde.
About the token
Casino: Whiskey Pete's, Jean, Nevada, US
Mint: Casino Token
Composition: 99.9% silver surrounded by a brass ring
Silver Weight: About 0.6 ounces
Edge: Smooth
Denomination: $10 US Gaming Token Value
Design side: Bonnie and Clyde
Logo side: Whiskey Pete's logo
This Silver Striker token I believe I picked up on eBay in a lot with several others. I always love the tokens that come from the casinos that no longer exist, in this case the one in Jean, Nevada. The best part about these is the center is 99.9% silver! You can win these playing Silver Striker slot machines but are usually cheaper to buy on eBay or pawn shops. They are also a lot of fun to collect because there are just so many different ones out there.

Bonnie Parker was born in 1910 in Rowena, Texas and Clyde Barrow in 1909 in Ellis County, Texas. This pair of star crossed lovers ran a criminal gang in the early 1930's that robbed banks, small stores and funeral homes throughout the central United States. It was the period of the great depression and little work was available so many such as these two chose to rob as a mean to live. From 1932 to 1934 the couple and their gang stole vehicles, robbed, and killed 9 law officers and 4 civilians during their brief criminal careers.
The couple met in January of 1930 and was said to be love at first sight. Clyde was sent to prison on a weapons charge the same year, escaped once with the help of Bonnie, but recaptured and released in 1932. They then started a robbery and killing spree that lasted until 1934. By the time they had federal and Texas state authorities on their trail. Having a tip on their location an ambush was set up in Louisiana on May 23, 1934. As the couple drove up to the ambush point they opened fire with 130 rounds into the car killing them both never giving them an option to even surrender. Although they likely wouldn't have surrendered and been shot down anyway.
Since then Hollywood movies have been made about them giving them an undying place in American history. Their bodies were difficult to embalm due to all the gunshot wounds. Bonnie had more than 20,000 people attend her funeral and Clyde's was a private ceremony. Although they wanted to be buried together their families wouldn't allow it. Thus came to the end of the violent criminal careers of Bonnie and Clyde.
That will wrap un today's post. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments feel free to leave them below. Thanks for taking the time to stop on by! Happy Wednesday!
