THE VILLAGE DIARY:
We had a strange and brief encounter yesterday.
As we approached a ruined building, a woman ran out of it shouting “Ghosts, Ghosts” and then fled on horseback.
We were suspicious of her behavior, as she was carrying a large bag, and we imagined that she might have found some treasure in the rubble, and wanted to dissuade us from digging around.
After some deliberation, we decided to set up camp a little further away, as we were finally out of the swamp and fed up with the mosquitoes, and sent a search party into the building.
This was probably not the right timing, as we arrived at the ruins shortly before nightfall.
Our brave group, equipped with torches and accompanied by Samba our golden retriever, began their exploration.
In these dark, damp ruins, the reflection of cast shadows played tricks on our senses and tension rose among us, with Samba starting to tremble.
Then we heard noises, like murmurs at first, and gradually they turned into giggles and finally it was great bursts of laughter that ricocheted off the half-collapsed walls.
That's when we saw them, not far from a hundred ghosts watching us, floating in the sky above this old hacienda.
They didn't attack us, or maybe they just didn't have the time, because we ran away and mounted our horses to return to camp.
A bit like the strange woman we saw, and the bag she was carrying was probably just her personal belongings.
We're not going to find the money to pay for our transport to the island of salvation today, but we've tried and it will make a story to tell.
I'll write it down on one of the papers I have in my pockets.

LE JOURNAL DU VILLAGE:
Nous avons fait une étrange et brève rencontre hier.
Alors que nous approchions d'un bâtiment en ruines, une femme en est sortie en courant en criant "Fantômes, Fantômes" puis s'est enfuie à cheval.
Son comportement nous a paru suspect, elle portait un gros sac, et nous avons imaginé qu'elle avait peut être trouvé un trésor dans les décombres et qu'elle voulait nous dissuader de fouiller à notre tour.
Après délibération, nous avons décidé d'installer notre campement un peu plus loin, car nous sommes enfin sortis des marais et nous en avons assez des moustiques, puis nous avons envoyé une expédition de recherche dans le bâtiment.
Ce n'était probablement pas le bon timing car nous sommes arrivés aux ruines peu avant la tombée de la nuit.
Notre courageux groupe équipé de torches et accompagné de Samba notre golden retriever a commencé son exploration.
Dans ces ruines sombres et humides le reflet des ombres portées jouait des tours à nos sens et la tension montait parmi nous, Samba a commencé à trembler.
Puis nous avons entendu les bruits, comme des murmures pour commencer, et progressivement ils se sont transformés en ricanements et pour finir c'étaient de grands éclats de rire qui ricochaient sur les murs à moitié effondrés.
C'est alors que nous les avons vus, pas loin d'une centaine de fantômes nous regardaient, flottant dans le ciel au dessus de cette ancienne hacienda.
Ils ne nous ont pas attaqués, ou peut être n'en ont ils pas eu le temps car nous avons fui en courant puis enfourché nos chevaux pour rentrer au camp.
Un peu comme l'étrange femme que nous avons vu, et le sac qu'elle portait, c'était probablement juste ses affaires personnelles.
Ce n'est pas aujourd'hui que nous allons trouver de quoi payer notre transport vers l'ile salvatrice, mais nous avons essayé et cela fera une histoire à raconter.
Je vais la noter sur un des papiers que j'ai dans mes poches.
