Hello, Splinterlands warriors! How’s the season-ending battles treating you? I hope your card collections are growing stronger, and your strategies sharper with every battle!
Speaking of Splinterlands, there’s always something exciting to talk about. Whether it’s a landslide victory or a narrow loss, every battle leaves its mark, doesn’t it?
This time, I want to share one of my go-to strategies to increase the chances of winning: predicting your opponent’s team before the battle begins. Trust me, this tactic can leave your opponents stunned by the end of the game.
1. Know Your Opponent and Their Team
While we can’t know who our opponent is before the Splinterlands system matches us with one, don’t worry—there’s a trick. Once the system selects your opponent, quickly check their last five battles. This will give you an idea of which elements they frequently use.
It’s simple: hover over the elements, and voila!
You can see their summoners, monsters, and their levels. Players often stick to their best team repeatedly, so this is a solid clue for your strategy. But remember, there’s a timer! Spend about 30 seconds on this analysis.
2. Check the Ruleset, Active Elements, and Mana Cap
Next, examine the game rules, active elements, and the mana cap. Determine whether the elements frequently used by your opponent in their last five battles fit the current ruleset. If they do, there’s a 70% chance they’ll stick with those elements. However, don’t forget there’s always a 30% chance they might try something different.
For example, if my analysis shows Death, Life, and Dragon as their frequent picks, I’ll prepare counters for those elements. Analyzing the rules and mana cap typically takes another 30 seconds, so stay sharp!
3. Build Your Team Based on Predictions
Once you’re confident about the elements your opponent is likely to use, it’s time to build your team. This is where the real art lies! Choose cards based on your collection, the game rules, and the mana cap.
For instance, if I predict my opponent will primarily use Death elements, I’ll assemble a team that can withstand their attacks while launching a strong counter-offensive.
My strategy might look like this:
- Void Dragon as the frontliner to absorb magic attacks.
- Djinn Renova to heal the backline and support Iziar.
- Venari Crystalsmith as an additional healer for the frontline tank, Drybone Barbarian.
- A summoner with an arrow attack reduction skill, just in case.
Don’t forget to position your monsters strategically! Who goes in front, middle, and back is crucial. This step usually takes around one minute. Stay alert and finish your setup before the timer runs out.
4. The Battle Begins
When the battle starts, your heart will surely race, especially as your strategy gets put to the test. In one match, I predicted my opponent would use Death, but they surprised me with a Life team!
Luckily, my formation was versatile enough to counter Life as well. Despite the misprediction, I still secured the win because my preparation matched the ruleset—Fog of War. The result? Victory!

The key here is flexibility. Don’t be rigid. Even if your prediction is off, solid preparation can still give you a significant advantage.
Conclusion and Lessons Learned
From this experience, here are a few key takeaways:
- Analyzing your opponent is half the battle. Study their patterns from the last five matches.
- Focus on the ruleset and active elements. Align your strategy with the mana cap and current conditions.
- Build a flexible team. Ensure your formation can handle multiple scenarios.
- Use your time wisely. Don’t overthink and forget to finalize your lineup.
With this strategy, I’m confident you’ll see "Victory" on your screen more often.
Give it a try, and if you have any exciting stories or strategies, feel free to share them in the comments. Cheers to your wins!
