If you want to have a high win rate in your battles, mastering speed is one of the keys. Let's delve into why speed is so important in Splinterlands battles.
The Importance of Speed in Splinterlands
Every monster in Splinterlands has different speed abilities, ranging from as low as 1 point to more than 7 points. Speed can increase if the Bloodlust and Enrage abilities are active. Speed determines the order in which monsters attack, whether they strike first or last. This is significant because attacking first can provide a substantial advantage by reducing the number of enemy attacks or even eliminating their monsters before they can strike.
Speed and Dodging Attacks
Speed also affects a monster's ability to dodge enemy attacks. If you have a monster with 5 points of speed facing a monster with only 1 point of speed, your monster has a higher chance of dodging the enemy's attacks. The larger the speed gap between two monsters, the greater the chance of avoiding attacks. This means that high-speed monsters not only attack first but are also harder for slower monsters to hit.
Combining Speed and Flying Ability
In addition to speed, there's an additional ability that can increase a monster's chance of dodging enemy attacks: the flying ability. This ability gives an extra 25% chance to evade enemy attacks. Some monsters have this ability, so even if their speed is low, they can still dodge attacks due to the additional 25% evasion chance.
So, what happens if these two abilities are combined? The combination of high speed and the flying ability, which adds a 25% evasion chance, makes your monster extremely difficult to hit. The chances of dodging enemy attacks become very high. This means your monster can survive longer in battle, providing more opportunities to attack and defeat the enemy.
My Battle
To see how this strategy works in a battle, I'll share an example: I used a Summoner that has the ability to reduce the enemy's speed by 1 point, namely QUIX THE DEVIOUS. With just this Summoner skill, I managed to decrease the speed of the enemy's monsters. Then, by placing high-speed monsters, the speed difference becomes even more significant.
I used VOID DRAGON, which has 5 points of speed and the flying ability, along with other monsters with 3 points of speed. In this battle, I managed to win thanks to repeatedly dodging the enemy's attacks. Even when the enemy attacked with magic, the Phase ability of VOID DRAGON allowed it to dodge as well. The enemy's healing abilities were also unable to withstand the combined attacks from my team of monsters.
