There are many mental conditions that goes unnoticed and unattended to. The human mind is plagued by as much illness as the body, I haven't heard of this syndrome, but I want to think that it's caused by traumatic experiences that can scar the mind.

This one apparently isn't caused by trauma, and they aren't sure why it happens. I've had enough trauma through military service to give me PTSD and the symptoms are very different and debilitating. They have been worse since I haven't been working because I think the old work stresses suppressed the PTSD.
This is just one of those oddball syndromes that can happen to anyone, but it has a great name doesn't it. I just hope I never get it again, it was spooky as hell...
The way you explain it makes it even more scarier, it's limitless we what the human mind can actually process or enact as an expression of feelings. I haven't experienced this
