If you are following my posts, you already know it. We have two clinics in two nearby towns. It takes 10-12 minutes to drive from one to another. I often consult patients in the second clinic. The second clinic doesn't have a laboratory technician at present. If the doctor suggests any tests, the manager or someone else usually takes the samples to the first clinic (the main branch of our company). So, it takes a bit more time to get the results.
I was on the morning shift duty. A man brought an old lady (mother or mother-in-law) with complaints of urinary pain. It appeared to me that the man was already bored or irritated. From the reception, he was told that we had a urine test available. As the urine test was indicated, I suggested doing the test. However, I informed him that it would take more time as we didn't have a lab facility in the clinic at that time!
He became more irritated! He said he couldn't wait. Why did the receptionist tell him that the tests were available? He left the chamber. I told the counter to cancel the file. A few minutes later, he came again (The Omani receptionist convinced him). He agreed to do the test. We sent the urine sample to the first clinic.
Normally, a urine test takes less than 10 minutes to reveal the result. But, for this case, it took, over one hour to get the result. While they were waiting, the man came with his wife to consult again. She was also having lower abdominal pain! I suggested a urine test for her too! The manager didn't return yet from the first clinic. Hence, it would take much more time to get the result for his wife. But, it seemed that he had no problem waiting more time!!
Finally, we received both results and I gave the treatment accordingly. When they left, it was already over 2 hours since they came to my chamber! The man was almost ready to cancel the file and leave, but ended up waiting for over 2 hours!
