How Much A Cup of Coffee Should Be..

in FreeCompliments8 months ago

Hello there, How Are You? I hope we all right now are having a good day

So today I am making this post, a post about coffee. I am a coffee addict, so I need a cup everyday or I am feeling gloomy for the whole day. The problem is that I am sensitive with the coffee taste, I can differ the taste however I can take the cheap bad taste too... if needed

So a few days a go I decided to get a cup of coffee, a cold one actually... This brand is on hype in several big cities in Indonesia. Because I am following #saturdaysavers No-Buy-Month event on last February, I have to wait until March to be available to get this one... Because coffee is not an essentials need, I won't die due to not having coffee...

I shared the picture on several groups, and as I expected I got various responds, whether they were serious, joking, positive and some negatives too. Because I am a stingy person, so I started the convo with this line:

Not A Cheap One

And I believe you already know why I could get negative comments too with that line.

CHEAP OR EXPENSIVE

Let's talk about price first, its twenty five thousands rupiah or around $1,6 USD. The number itself is not an expensive one, because there are some coffee shop sells their coffee at $6-10 USD a cup. Starbucks sell theirs at $2,7-$3,5 per portion, either tall or grande... not Ventii for sure.

Because there were many Starbucks die hard lovers in my group, so they tried to make me realize that I was wrong... the coffee was only about half the Starbucks cost...

There are three reasons why I say this one is not cheap despite having the price half of Starbucks here

  1. Outlet Location. Starbucks opens at the premium spot, near main entrance, in the center of podium, or between escalators and elevators where people must have to pass them to get on higher floor, and many more. The rent price is higher for sure. The outlet I got this coffee from, was on the basement. They aimed there for cheaper rent price.
  2. Decoration. The outlet was very simple and minimalist. I do not say that it was very basic, but I know all is standardized. It's like you go to ikea and buy everything there, trying hard to have the least customized furniture and decoration. Sorry I did not take images for the outlet, because there were many people there.
  3. Equipment and consumables. All are not the top notch or big brands. Same as I said above. The franchise itself is sold at $15.000 USD for a store.

I admitted that for the same taste, coffee late, it tastes a lot better than Starbucks. Whether they used the beans I like more, or they used better coffee beans than Starbucks. But this is not about Starbucks vs Tomorroo... It is about...

How Much A Cup Of Coffee Should Cost You

This is the main question... It is not about I am interfering your monetary issue, its more like remind you for not "lavish" or at least try to adapt some "frugal" spirit which is good for your wallet.

There is no right or wrong in deciding how much you should treasure your coffee, but you have to have a valid valuation about how decent the price is.

For me, a coffee should never cost me more than my lunch or dinner. I just ate a Nasi Padang on employee canteen there and it cost me eighteen thousands rupiah or $1,2 USD. So for me buying a coffee which cost me more than the lunch itself is not right.

Another approach I take is comparison to daily and weekly spending. Why should I take a comparative approach? because if its only the final number, I could cheat everytime I feel like I need it. For example, I am begging to a friend so they buy me free lunch, and the money I use to get fancy coffee. Or during Moeslim Friday Prayers, mostly there are people giving cheap food or free food for lunch. I can come and pretend like I am in deep monetary trouble, they will give me free lunch, and I can use the money to get other items such as fancy expensive coffee.

For one or twice, nobody can stop you from doing that. But in longer term, you can not rely on such a cheat way.

Another reasons why I make this post is because one of the conversation, discussion and debate is with a fellow colleague who I know well she doesn't make good money or income. I was quite surprised when she said its god damn cheap and she loved to buy it and sacrifice her lunch...

Hmmm, maybe I am wrong and she is right...?? hell no!

HoW about You?

So how about you, how do you see this situation from your perspective... Well there is no right or wrong here, I just curious with other people point of view... Please leave your comment below, I am really appreciate those...
