Not long ago I made a post about some 3d printed rig I printed to drain the vat on my resin printer, since that is what must be done in order to change the resins out for a different one.
Well I got my self a second vat so that I can swap them out without having to do all that.
And what do you know after I drained it I left it out to dry and then a bit later I accidently stepped on it, pic above.
Good thing I got that second vat right ? Well I did keep the resin printing operation going with it however I had another accident and this one was a lot worse and a bit scary, I had a print finish and as I was taking it off it slipped out of my hand and the solid metal build plate along with the print came crashing down on the printer It went into the vat, I was worried the printer would be damaged pretty bad but It was impossible to see since the vat still had some resin in it.
Naturally I had to drain the vat to inspect the damage, as I was draining it I saw a small leak so the fep sheet(the clear bit that wraps around that vat frame.
I inspected the printer and I seen that there was a nick on the screen but no cracks, luckily the screen has a screen protector I peeled it off and luckily no damage was done to the actual screen just the fep and the screen protector got damaged.
Luckily that is not the worst but with no screen protector and no vats the printer was out of commission.
I ordered some more fep film for the vats and some screen protectors, was not too expensive and it came quick with Amazon
Then I had to get to work, I placed the screen protector on the screen that is much like one would do for a phone or tablet just need to clean it and try to lay it down nice with minimal air bubbles.
Then came the vats
A whole bunch of screws keep it together, fortunately the way it is designed it makes it easy to have the right ammount of tension on the film, I had to line it up and start putting in the screws on to the first part of the frame
Then we screw it into the second part of the vat and here is where the tension comes in
Then I had to trip the extra film and after that this vat was good to go.
Oh then I had to do it all over again since I had 2 damaged vats, Now everything is back up and running and I will be more careful in the future to avoid this happening, I still have some extra screen protectors and another fep sheet, They are consumables and don't last forever even without damage from accident like in my case .
