Welcome in this post I share a sneak peak into the world of rapid prototyping and other related drama.
So traffic is crazy around where I live and so I opted for an electric scooter.
It's great and saves a lot of time but I had a little issue I had a small crash and the back fender fell off, thats not great if its raining or wet as the back wheel flings up all the water and dirt at ya.
The scooter still works great but if it's wet conditions one can get mucked up pretty bad, the issue is that the manufacturer is not selling a replacement fender, so there is only one reasonable solution at my disposal design and print my own replacement east peasey right ?
NOPE!🤣
above are some prototypes and test pieces. there are actually a few more that are not in the picture
I started from scratch and used the picture above with a reference Canadian dime to get the base shape.
Right bellow was my first reasonable prototype I set it up and it seemed to work but it snapped fairly quickly I noticed one of the screw holes was too loose and I figured maybe that what caused the issue.
Right bellow is the first one I tried It was not very effective and I still got soaked
It was just some puddles no rain and it only did a little bit to keep the spray off me
I would much rather buy a replacement but like mentioned above its not an option I already spend a fair bit of time and money on this fix.
The first pic in this post is my latest prototype and it seemed reasonably strong I beefed up the base quite a fair bit, however it broke too it seems 3 out of the 4 screws holes are loose and no longer can hold it, to prevent the fender from sanding down the tire I had to push my foot on it , when I got home I realize that snapped some of the fender.
So now I have to print another that is slightly thicker and will have to drill the screw holes and rethread them to a bigger size I hope that will be the last of it, if that dosent work Im buying a new scooter 🤣
