Greetings Splinterlands Summoners! As Splinterlands celebrate its sixth year anniversary, we continue to enjoy thrilling battles. Previously, I talked about how I started the game. In the second part, I wrote about the current and future state. Today, I will write about one of my favorite cards in the game, which particular rulesets is it good at and which monsters and summoners it synergizes with.
This card is Coastal Sentry.
I currently have her at level 4. She is already a beast with 4 melee attack and four speed. She also has four shield and 6 hearts. What makes her even deadlier is her Double Strike ability. Coupled with her insane damage, she can remove one or two of the opponent's cards in one round.
Synergies
The best summoner for her is Possibilus, the legendary Water Summoner.
Possibilus give all monsters the Reach and Trample abilities. This allows Coastal Sentry to be in the second position and deal insane damage with those abilities. She also gains 2 additional hearts making her last more in the battle. If you don't have Possibilus then you can use her with Kelya but only in certain rulesets.
As for monsters, having a strong tank in front of her is best so that she can do her business while the tank takes damage.
For tanks, Baakjira is great but DiemonShark is also fine if you don't have Baakjira.
For low mana battles, she can be paired with Cruel Sethropod which is a decent tank for 3 Mana.
A support card that I often see with Coastal Sentry is the Venari Marksrat.
This card has the Martyr ability which will give Coastal Sentry additional stats when the Marksrat dies. This pairing is great in certain situation that I will discuss below.
Rulesets and Strategy
If you only have Kelya as summoner then you can use Coastal Sentry in certain rulesets:
Equal Opportunity - Place her next to Venari Marksrat which will be killed by the opponent's Opportunity attackers triggering the Martyr ability.
Supersneak - Place the Coastal Sentry in the fifth position and Venari Marksrat in the last position. Similar to the Equal Opportunity strategy above, Coastal Sentry will benefit from Venari Marksrat's Martyr ability when it dies.
Manuevers - All monsters gain the Reach ability. Use her as a second tank and let her do damage from the second position.
Here's one battle.
The ruleset is Manuevers so all units gain the Reach ability. It also has a max of 46 mana.
Since I will be using melee units for damage, I also picked River Hollendale for the Inspire ability.
I also picked Merdaali Guardian for Healing and Repair abilities.
And last, another great card, Swamp Spitter. Not only does he have Repair but also deals 3 ranged damage.
Now my opponent. It was a pleasant surprise to face off against the new summoner Lorkus. He also picked mostly Rebellion cards including Venka the Vile. He also has the Coeurl Lurker in the last position.
Unfortunately, his monsters are low levels and got wrecked mercilessly.

This is what makes Splinterlands fun. With just one card, you have to think in which ruleset it's optimized and which monsters it's good to use with. You also have to anticipate how the opponent chooses his cards and counter it with your own making each battle challenging and enjoyable.
I hope Splinterlands will celebrate more anniversaries in the years to come and provide old and new players with the same challenging and fun battles with have now.
Thank you Splinterlands!
